FRESHM II 1952 This is another Senior Class four years be- fore. Herbe Kempe is sitting right up front. Herb went to M.l.T. three years later, but he looks like a typical freshman here. Next to Herb is Leon Lantzounis, who's still smiling, although no one has been able to figure out Leon's sense of humor. We've forgotten that fellow next to Leon, but who could forget the fellow in the center? That's Doug McCartney, our All-American swimmer. Next to Doug is Pete Greenwald. Pete looks as if he was just caught with his hand in the cookie jar. The middle row holds a lot of faces that are gone now. However, that's George Littman with a smile straight from the rogue's gallery. Bob Harriman is in the center of the middle row. I think Bob must have stopped eating. Leonard lompulski is next to Bob. That big smile could only mean that Leonard has finally outwitted Mr. Bowman. Bob Greco is at the rear with Bobert Ross McBurney glaring over his should- er. Mr. Deme's right-hand man, Ho Hum Lee, comes next. Many of the boys in this picture are no longer at McBurney, but someone al- ways seems to fill the empty places, cmd the class is still at sixty boys. Page 42

FRESHM 1952 Believe it or not, this is the Class of '55 The only difference is that these pictures were taken in 1952. Do they look better or worse? Seems to me that quite a few lost some weight during their four years at hard labor in Mc- Burney. That fellow sitting at the left-hand corner of the picture is none other than Bruce Brown. Can't say we thought then that Bruce would be editor of the Lamp and Laurel. Next to Bruce is Swingin' Eric Deutsch. Eric swung ahead of the rest of us and graduated in three years. The big one right in the middle is our boy, Flesh Calise. Seems Bill is still smiling. Seated on the end is Mike Abrahams. I think Mike is trying to outstare the camera. Willy Caterson is the crew-cut in the back row. l-le's grown a little since then, hasn't he? The man with the broad shoulders next to Will is the 'Canarsie Kid , Ben DuBose. Beneath Bobert Boss McBurney, we find Pete Eichhorn. Pete has become quite an athlete, with letters in swimming, football, and track. That's change- less Alex Bobrovsky in the back row. The fel- low with the arrogant look is lack Fields. lack made a name for himself as editor of the Mc- Burneian. Tricky Dick Bier is next to lack. A few years later, Dick became a fine tennis player 'and leader of the Yorkville Squad. That beefy guy in the right corner is Bed Arneth, who's a little slimmer now. Page 41

FRESHM N III 1952 He-re's more Frosh of '52, alias Seniors of 55. Those boyish faces now look rnorelike rnen. Can't recall who that is sitting in the left corner, but we know thats lohri Sloss up in front. lohrfs sittmg here giving the camera a big smne. The fellow with the fancy vest is Fred Pivko, now the last of the fazfnous Ben-Yettes . Charley Thiel is still wearing that same tie that he has on in this picture. Looking like the be fore of a Toni Perrnanetnt ad, we find the future president of Student Council, Bill Rose. The boy on the left is Herb Zapf. Herb's gotten a lot thinner frorn all the swirnrning he does, and I predict he'll be the next Charles Atlas. Right in he middle, always srnilirig, is Dave Mills. Dave looks good enough to make the All-City Soccer Team right there. The fellow llfim at the end of the row with the drearny look is Rod Nash., Wonder if the dream is about a girl? Carl Reinhardt starts the top row. He's really got a sharp tie there. Thats Gordie Young next to Carl. Where's the DA. haircut? Mickey Shapiro has worked so hard in four years that he has gotten a lot thinner. That guy behind Mickey just likes to have his picture taken. He doesn't look like a frosh to rne. Wally Steven- son is watching something out of the comer of his eye. That couldrft be a girl, could it, Wally? Roberto Rosenberg, the Liberace of our class, is in Venzuela training for a career as a con- cert piainist. This completes the Class of '56. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. K Page 43
