i r I I f S ' . f £1 . : - In September of ’78 McAuley received a deer visi¬ tor. Due to unfortunate circumstances our friend was frightened away by the new bright, bold colors of the school. Unlike the students, who thought the change of colors brought a new outlook to McAuley, the deer visitor felt he was blinded by the light. i McAuley High School 6000 Oakwood Avenue Cincinnati, Ohio 45224 Conducted By The Sisters Of Mercy 1 x 1 1. Our Big Sisters helped us adjust to this routine, for at the most we were only fifteen. As Sophomores we did crazy things at the Halloween party and met new friends, like our Sophomore pal. We began to grow up when we first got our temps., and were allowed to go to our first Date Dance. When we were Juniors our class became unified when we were given our sweaters and rings. We became upperclassmen with just two years to go, living it up at the Christmas Dance and Prom. Our Senior year was spent planning our futures, and building new ones in our Little Sisters. Our years at McAuley ended with graduation, out into the world with little hesitation. When we look back at these times in the future years we’ll remember the faces and names of those friends that made those years such pleasant ones. By Barbara Inderhees ’79 PAGE 16. 1. Whether they are keeping the ball bouncing in basketball, flipping over gymnastics, hitting grandslams, running the mile, spiking a volleyball, or swinging a backhand, the teams at McAuley show that teamwork as well as skill help them to excel in all they do. The theme o f the retreat was Affirmation. There were discussions, skits, a mass, and a prayer service. All the activities were cen¬ tered on getting to know others and on affirming yourself and those around you. This song captured the spirit of the retreat: “I cried a tear you wiped it dry. I was confused, you cleared my mind. I sold my soul, you bought it back for me. Somehow you needed me. You gave me strength to stand alone again. To face the world out on my own again. You put me high, upon a pedestal so high that I could almost see eternity. You needed me, you needed me. And I can’t believe it’s you, I can’t believe it’s true. I needed you and you were there and I’ll never leave, why should I leave I’d be a fool cause I’ve finally found someone who really cares.” Amid the flashing lights and disco beat Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors tried out the latest disco steps to the sounds of the “Terrific Traveling Light and Sound Show.” McAuley’s top ten was aired and the song “Three Times a Lady” by the Commodores was num¬ ber one. All present enjoyed their “Night on Disco Mountain.” PAGE 34: 1. A. Bamberger, P. Haubner and date, T. Cohen; 2. B. Strawser and date, M. Hebeler and date; 3. J. Moeller and date; 4. L. Sister Brenda and the Student Council members came in and took over the responsibilities of orga- nmng the Date Dance, Paper Drive, McDonald sale, along with many other activities. They brought a change of pace in when Student Council Week “came alive.” The week was filled with everything from Silly Sock Day to recognizing the teachers on Teacher Appreciation Day. And, of course, no one will forget the singing announcements informing us that: “You you’re the one!” Sophomore Dad-Daughter Dance October 27, 1978 Here’s to you, Dad. Prizes were awarded for the best homeroom idea and for the best cos¬ tumes. Homeroom 16 won the best homeroom idea award for their version of a Toy Box. The best costume award was given to Diane Dirr, Patty Houser, and Gina Knecht for a box of crayons. An eerie atmosphere pervaded the school and while no souls were lost the devilish fiend absconded with the pho¬ tographs for this page. A warning for all to beware! Terri Busch and Carrie Mees starred in the production. 29 + 1 in ’79 It’s that time of year again when all good McAuley students and faculty run about selling raffle tickets. After all the planning, confusion and scheming, this is how the classes stacked up: The red hot seniors’ fever kept rising, until their temperature reached the boiling point and declared them as the winning class in this year’s raffle. The wild and crazy class of ’80 wasn’t far behind in their yellow submarine but even with Glascock’s Gestopoes being the top selling home¬ room, they couldn’t get up enough steam to surface. The sophomores’ game plan was unsure at first but they finally got it all together and socked it to ’em to bring in 99.5% of their goal. The freshman thought that a little bit of luck would bring them success in the raffle but they soon found out that skill was what really helped them to succeed. Combined, the school did better than expected, bringing in over 35,000 dollars. 29 + 1 in ’79 was a great success! PAGE 44: 1. A. Fitzpatrick, B. Annis, A. Vidourek, Mr. Junker; 2. P. Westrich; 3. S. The “Patterns of Christmas” at McAuley were changed as McAuley and LaSalle’s music departments combined their talents at the annual Christmas Concert. In keeping with the spirit of Christmas, the two schools worked together to make this year’s program both enjoyable and unique. Christmas Skit Dolls that dance, umbrellas that sing, talking clocks and so many other things were brought right here from all over the world to the “Toy Scout Jamboree”. The toy scout showed off all their finds to the scrutinizing eyes of Santa Claus. But when the best toy was announced it was not a toy at all. The gift of giving as we all know, is the greatest gift of all. Christmas Mass The McAuley community celebrated the Christmas Mass in an international way. Singing Silent Night in various languages was one way in which this was accomplished. Christmas Parties Everyone likes parties and the Christmas holidays gave McAuley students and clubs a good excuse to throw party after party. The Latin and Spanish Clubs both celebrate Christmas in their repsective country’s style here at school; While the French Club went carolling and held celebration complete with French pastries afterward. On December 20 the Seniors played Santa to their little sisters at the Big- Little Sister Christmas party where all recreated “Twas The Night Before Christmas”. PAGE 60 1. Glee Club. 2. D. But in the end, when I get A’s on my report card, all the headaches, and seemingly endless hours of homework are worth it. i I Variety Show — Feb. 10-11 “Reel to Real” The class of 80’ began planning for the annual Variety Show in November. The theme chosen was “Reel to Real.” First came the task of picking the heads of staff. Next, came the auditions and casting. After the final cast was chosen, music needed to be found, and acts needed polishing. Finally, Opening Night! McAuley’s talent played to a, sellout crowd. When it was all over — only memories, congratulations, memories, and clean up lingered. PAGE 70: 1. C. Lehker, P. Carroll, J. Kaiser, B. Miller, A. Schneider, K. Radloff 2. K. McManus, L. Whether McAuleyans come together for a Mass, pep rally, or the raffle, their school spirit is always evident. Assemblies, such as the piano concert given by Richard Collins, and the Suicide, Alcholism and Drug Abuse discussion sponsored by Stu¬ dent Council provided an imformative and enjoyable break from the daily routine. 74 PAGE: 76 1. And yet another friend I have I’ve known for just a whi le, And still we’ve shared the lonely tears, the private smiles; With her I’ve learned that time cannot affect the bond of trust That helps us face the pain and sadness when we must, How my friends have touched me, brought me from my fears Of always being the strong one who has to hide the tears. Yet now I’m even stronger, my treasure unlike gold. Our times together have reached me, and my friend is half my soul.
