Day by day acquiring new in or thoughts and ideas . . . learning to endure the r sec pain of mistakes . . . gracefully accepting re- Qned 1 wards for accomplishments. A long-lasting the 1: struggle for growth and maturity continues . . . with every breath of life left to breathe. I am real, to face a word of reality. Without us there would be no McAuley- -just a vast eternity of empty rooms, empty halls. -we are loud -mouthed students having birthday parties at lunch. -we are uppereclassman, glad to see that the years are over, yet fear the future. -we are under-classmen, waiting to become juniors and seniors. -We are juniors, breathing a sigh of relief-- announcements are over and you weren't caught skipping. -We are little frosh all mixed up in our own little world, looking up to seniors for security. We are all a community of people joined together for a commom cause eto mature into the best human being possible. We are overweight students, starting diets everyday. - skinny, devouring everything and anything withoutgaining a single pound. We are ambitious, involved in every possible activity. - lazy, neglecting our studies. We are popular, known by all. - quiet and shy only because of our own inwardness. We are leaders, courageously achieving unlimited goals. - followers, striving toward our own set potentials. We are friends, caring, sharing, and loving; giving up of ourselves to others. - enemies, seliishly blaming others for our own mistakes. Each and everyone of us is somebody, representing a variety of personalities, characteristics, talents, and ambitions. Freely accepting the good and bad of life, we are then united tagether to form a community in which we make an effort to do our utmost in creating a world of perfection. The Best Way To Kill Tim- ls To Use HOMEROOM HASSLE Twenty minutes after, a dash for the door All of a sudden, you fall on the floor; Crawling and panting you just can't Wait, No matter how hard you try, you're going to be late. In fall we begin the long journey 0f imprisonment. MCAuIey awakens with the arrival of the first stu- dents in the morning. All through the day students flow from one class to another where teachers im- part to them an accumulation of facts and figures until 3:00 arrives. It's the kind of chaos YOU think you really mind; but after it's all over, YOU miss it and wish you had it to do over again. -'m the library, shhh!, realizing that means you! -in the gym, having the time of your life by letting go freely all tensions built up inside. -in a 15-minute study hall, communicating to a friend in the first row when you sit in the last. -'m the secluded auditorium awaiting the rush of classes to accumulate. -in art class, creating something from nothing. -Biology learning center--i.n a room of growth, of life, of learning. -'at the lunch table Where everyone is on some kind of tuna and apple diet. -slouched' in the phone booth during lunch breaks. -in thecrowded, noisy halls surrounded by plaid skirts and White blouses. -off in a make -believe world of what happened this past weekend and what's going on next weekend. . .--,, A....a...e As we live and grow through edu- cation, we realize we are here for a purpose. Some are just here to learn, to teach, to dis- cover themselves and others, some for just mere fun; but those who reach out, grow from ex- periences, become a friend, come before the sun. While sitting in class, staring at the walls, a wave of loneliness sweeps over me. I can hear the wild laughter in the halls--It seems happy chatter sets people free. Now Ilm there, too, with one class left--five down. Dodge 'mg the bodies and the bobbing heads, sharing good times and just clowning around. Yet, in- side I still feel isolated. My dreams are shot down, my feel- ings don't mend. I'm a part of it all . . . but still alone. Why am I like this? I have lots of friends; but none understand, not even at home. Maybe someday my mind will be washed, and all difficul- ties unfurled; but for now I'm just a lonely frosh, all confused in this grownup world. -'m a big yellow school bus anxiously unloading half-asleep McAuley girls for another monotonous week of school. -in a beat up '68 Opel that runs When it wants L to, and when it doesnT v-I do! -in pools of rain, to see What knowledge we can gain. -on our owntwo feet, real '12ng and appre- ciating the beauty of nature as the day be- gins. -arr'1ving just in time to finish homework not done the night be- fore. -trave1'1ng at a great force of speed- worried sick of being tardy. With the help of the many office ladies at McAuley, tuition is payed, books are kept straight, reports are typed, records are filed, and every stu- dent is accounted for during every moment of the day. 12 ' .
