McAuley religion classes can testity that the ecumenical movement is iust beginning. Guest speakers gave students a rare chance to learn, about the structures and customs ot other churches in Toledo. Rev. Vic- tor l-lerberth, pastor ot St. Michael's Hungarian Byzantine Catholic Church spoke to iuniors about the Eastern Catholic Church. Accord- ing to Rev. l-lerberth, Eastern Catholics see the Pope as the heart ot the Church, and Christ at the head. Representing the Orthodox taith was Msgr. John Matthiesen ot St. Elias Church. Students were surprised to learn that the baptismal cere- mony includes complete immersion in water. contirmation, and the reception ot Communion by the intant. Sophomores are what they claim to be- super sophs. Their never-torgetting mascot the Pink Ele- phant. with his Elephant Walk, has guided them through a memorable year. Sophomores began the year by welcoming trosh little sisters, whom they helped through those tirst ditticult days. ln tune with the beat, they hosted the Nov. 22 record hop, showing everyone the best way to dance to the Buccaneers. During the season ot Christmas, the sophs spread merry cheer by decorating the cateteria and sponsoring a cloth- ing drive tor needy tamilies. They also assisted iuniors by serving at the Junior Prom. The Class ot '70 has not only learned to think but to care and to dare. Singing away is Sister Jane Marie's religion class. The girls compose their own modernized psalms. fi ,I A fx g. ' , 1 t '47 Karen Buerk Cynthia Camargo I 5 T A T A . How can you measure the boxes of Good and Plen- ty, the reams of newsprint, the worn down erasers, the frayed tempers, and the wasted triplicates. We arrived in Detroit for our yearbook training the same day the riots started lwhat a coincidencelj. So, amid the sound of snipers' bullets and cries of Black Power this yearbook was born. In September, 305 became our haunt. Along with our com- petent and tireless staff we planned, wrote, cropped, and coaxed this book into existence. With blurry vision we checked copy for the lOOth time because we wanted to make the I 968 Gilmarian the perfect yearbook. Neither rain, sleet, hail, snow, nor grouchy typewriters kept us from meeting our deadlines. At times, though, we thought we'd never reach the post office before closing time. This is the largest, the most comprehensive, and the most expensive Gilmarian ever. We hope you like it. STAFF UNDERCLASS ..... ....... M ary Sei Cindy DeMa Carol Pohorec . . . . .
