BEL CANTOS PERFORM THE MESSIAI-l The Bel Cantos, McArthur,s Advanced Chorus, enjoyed an active and enriching year. The choir's many activities included the perfor- mance of Handel's Messiah',, the beautiful musical story of the coming of Christ. Also during the Christmas season, the group sang at the annual Yuletide assembly and again at the carol sing. The chorus was enjoyed at other functions such as the National Honor Society induction ceremony and regular school assemblies. They also performed for the Classroom Teachers Association and participated in the County Choral Festival. Congratulations are in order for the Bel Cantos whose efforts and talents were rewarded when they re- ceived a superior rating at both distiict and state con- tests. THESPIANS HGLD UNUSUAL INITIATIGN The Thespian Club had two initiations this year. New members had to write and present a one act play. Afterwards they had to go through a rigid ques- tioning by the old members. A second initiation was held in February for the new National Thespians. Each inductee had to come to school dressed as a famous character from a play. When asked by a Thespian, they would have to perform their act. The new members were glad when the day ended but MHS students en- joyed Watching the proceedings. The club took a great part in working backstage on the Junior and Senior Class plays. They also helped with the Shattered Shakespeare assembly for the Sen- iors. This is the first year McArthur has had a National Thespian chapter. To become members the students completed 100 hours of working on or behind stage.
