HAVE WINNING SEASON In the first year that junior varsity baseball was operated on a Broward County basis, McArthur's team ran up an excellent 5-3 record and gained second place among county teams. The seventeen players met other Class AA junior varsity squads in non-con- ference competition, since the program was so new. The opening game saw the Mustangs triumph over the baby Bulldogs, 12-6. McArthur next lost to Pompano, 13-2, but gained revenge later in the season, 2-1. Stran- ahan's Dragons fell to us 6-5 and 14-7. Our second loss was to Fort Lauderdale, 6-3, but we bounded back and won over Broward again, 7-5. In the last game of the year, McArthur and Fort Lauder- dale battled it out for eleven innings until the Mustangs succombed, 4-3. MUSTANGS BASEBALL TEAMS The Mustangs began the 1963 varsity baseball sea- son with a blistering 19-2 victory over Riverside Military l l Academy. From there, the team went on to an overall 9-8 record and a fourth place finish in the Gold Coast Conference, Northern Division. Highlight of the campaign was a squeaker 1-0 victory over the Hialeah Throughbreds, Southern Division G. C. C. champs. Paul Buzzella, pitcher with a 6-3 record and a fine shortstop, brought further glories to McArthur by being named to the All-County and All-Conference 4 teams. With players coming up from this year's fine junior l varsity squad, future M. H. S. baseball teams should be among the finest in the conference. y Another home run for the Mustangs! l 'FJ 118 9-ill' , Q77 . Ig s l s

For the second consecutive year, the Mustang boys tennis team won the District 7 Championship. Also turning in McArthur,s first undefeated, 8-0, season in interscholastic sports, the MHS netters earned added glories as Northern Division Gold Coast Conference champs, runners-up in overall Cold Coast play, and the seventh top team in the state. Led by captain and No. 1 man Rick Preston, the boys also brought fame to McArthur with their spec- tacular play against rival South Broward, snapping a Bulldog 54-game winning streak, a record compiled over the last five years. Junior No. 2 man Iohn Prevost and sophomore No. 3 player Jay Maggiore each gained singles District Champ- ionships in their divisions. They both also gained semi- final berths in the state tournament. Chick Fuller, play- ing at No. 4 Singles, was District and Gold Coast champion. Since Preston was the onlv senior on the squad, McArthur's chances for a third consecutive District championship as well as added GCC and state laurels are extremely high.
