J. V. cheerleaders up in air at Broward game. In early October, ten sophomore and junior girls were chosen to make up the 1962-63 junior varsity cheerleading squad. They joined their varsity big sisters in practice sessions, but still remained a distinct and independent group. The cheerleaders were selected in time for the final two junior varsity football games and also cheered at the Thanksgiving varsity game against Norland. During basketball season the girls, headed by captain Vickie Sink and co-captain Julie Barile, were on hand at every junior varsity game to cheer the baby Mus- tangs on to victory again and again. Four of the cheerleaders were accepted for the 1963-64 varsity squad at tryouts in May. The Colts, McArthur's junior varsity basketball team, ran up an enviable 15-5 record for Coach Floyd Horgen in his first year at MHS. This also marks the third consecutive year that our sophomore team has lost five or less games. The squad remained undefeated for six outings until they lost to Pompano's perennially undefeated j.v.'s in our gym. Of the next eight games, the baby Mus- tangs won five. In the final five contests, they won all but one, losing again to Pompano. McArthur's excellent showing in junior varsity action this year assures powerful Mustang varsity squads in the years to come and new, gleaming trophies to add to our ever-growing collection. Each varsity game was preceded by a lense and exciting iunior varsity contest.
