For twelve years, since coming to McHi in 1945, Mrs. Vivian Ferguson has been a very active part of the McHi scene. She has worked hard in the interests of our school, and her contributions have been many and varied. Among the many clubs Mrs. Ferguson has sponsored, is the Advanced Slide Rule Club. This club trains slide rulers for Interscholastic League competition, and it is due largely to her hard work that Mrs. Ferguson’s students are so often victorious in competition. The Student Council and the cheerleaders are also sponsored by this active teacher, and she takes part in all their activities—whether chaperoning a trip to Corpus Christi, selling peanuts, or making uniforms. It is to Mrs. Ferguson that the thankless job of riding herd on a bus of game-bound students often falls. All of this and more too: Mrs. Ferguson has taught five periods of mathematics daily and is one of McHi’s most popular instructors. For these activities and many others, we feel that Mrs. Vivian Ferguson deserves a very big “THANK YOU.” Therefore, although we realize that her work on our behalf is beyond our power of repayment, it is to Mrs. Vivian Ferguson that we dedicate our 1957 El Espejo with the deepest gratitude. DEDICATION

FOREWORD A full-fledged circus is a mighty busy place; something is going on every minute. So, also is McHi a place of activity. From September until May our own three rings are never empty. Therefore the staff of the El Espejo pre- sents to you this 1957 annual in all its circus glory, in the hope that you will enjoy turning the pages of this cotton-candy and side-show record as much as we enjoyed preparing it for you. ANNUAL STAFF Responsible for this year’s El Espejo is the Annual Staff pictured above. Under the gentle guidance of Mr. B. N. Smith, sponsor. Toya Kike and Ellen Watson (seated) helped create this yearbook, as well as the artistic masterpieces on the division pages. Margaret Townsend (also seated) and Sylvia Santiago (second from right) managed the business end of the deal. Sara Sanborn. Ann Pagenstecher. and Blanca Gonzalez (first, third, and last, standing) stuck pictures, wrote captions, and ran errands. Lois Engel and Ruth Kronke (not shown) did everything at once, and Jim Lockett and Fred Mover took care of the darkroom and pictures, and handed the staff more laughs than a circus, while co-editors Judy Hendricks and Judy Ferguson coordinated the efforts of all, assembled the pages, read copy (with tears in their eyes), and valiantly tried to meet each ‘deadline.
