Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1949 volume:

Today McHi stands uppermost among the high schools of the Rio Grande Valley, out- standing in opportunities and accomplish- ments, much of which is due to our students. For this reason the 1949 El Espejo is dedi- cated, not to one individual, but to a group of people who have molded and will continue to mold our world, the students of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. . . The indifference shown in the world of today emphasizes a definite need for the return of grace and dignity in our e v e r y d a y life. In view of these conditions the theme of the 1949 El Espejo is heraldry and chivalry, one which will not only live today but into the years.
