Organizations in MHS, varied as they are, of- fer the students the opportunities to work together, to play together, and to grow together in an understanding of one an- other. Organizations give the opportunity for service, and modern youth is waiting to serve. No generation of youth was ever more ready to respond to a mighty challenge. Through organizations modern youth airs his doubts, his fears, and speaks out boldly for his ideals. Adult leadership in these organizations gives direction to these ideals. 67 F55 -...gs N 'x i S 'W Enthusnsm n the greatest mast ln the xwrld It buts money md power and xntlutncn IM: one hm bhoxxn L,rc1ter cnthus1 lsm for thexr school thc-lr tclloxx cl lssm ltcs md tht. fxcult-, thfm hut thc Student Councnl oftmttrs As 1 telm they hue often qccompllshed the lIHI,OSS1bIC Roberta Mmm Vxcn Prcsndtnt Cow Ircemm Pruxdcnt Iud1tI1HLnrx Irusurnr Slnrlu Momion Secretary TUDE T COUNCIL ACCEPTS THE 1 For Sale 1960 Student dxrectorncs Get yours now' Student Coun C11 members IlI1d.1 Kmltmd Nmq Gormm Hugh Cmupbell md By stung conpunx from tha p Iyar Sold ucry mornxng., Coy Johnny Dila Budzlnsky uv: Some SIICSH1 lnshxp md Xhss Wl1lflkQf Sponsor Lnlblt utrmnc to ply hm rc Qpccti to tht nux AITWLYICIH flxge Et H ', -Q.. Everyone knows what is wrong with him. Wfe give you glimpses of what is right with him. He is neither all good nor all bad, one moment he is carefree and the next moment serious, daring and wild one day and conservative and demure the next. But this is because he is a stranger to himself, The strange forces within him are untested and unexplored. He has a great curiosity about life. He wants to know. He must examine and try them all. He has not yet learned the difference between the good and the bad impulses and so gives free rein to all. It is the job of adults to see that he learns to distinguish between the good and the bad impulses. 5 ' v wdnnfw-' ff' - V.--.mwif ':. - . f . Ja- .':- ,,s. Our athletes find that sports demand a combination of physical strength, an alert mind, enthusiasm, pur- pose, and team work, Throughout all school games the finer qualities of sports- manship and character are brought forth and developed. Life at MHS without sport participation and competition would be dull and uneventful for the participant as well as the spectator. By Christmas holiday time, the Buffs had lost only one game, to state champion Ft. Smith. McAlcster won the first Sooner Star Conference Tournament ever held by beat- ing the potent Seminole Chieftains in the finals. At this time the Buffs were ranked fifth in Oklahoma. A s 1 e a g u e play progressed, Seminole emerged as the team to beat. We lost twice to them and ended conference play with a 10-2 record and second place in the stand- ings. The overall record up to regional tour- nament was 16-5. This years conference record of 10-2 enabled the hustling Buffs to win 40 out of the last 48 league games. The B team had a successful season un- der the coaching of Stanley Banasik. As you turn through the following pages of your annual you will find young peo- ple who, because of their loyalty to our school, their friendliness and their kind- ness to their fellow students, have found for themselves a place among the 1959- 1960 MHS Personalities.
