ARCH THOMPSON Education must be as progressive as the world around us. With this as a guide the McAlester School system has moved forward. Teachers are trained while they work in curriculum workshops and pre-school clinics. They work with new equipment in visual education and other training aids, with the results being checked in a school-wide testing program in the 4th, 7th, 9th and 12th grades. Environment is also a controlling factor in the process of learn- ing. New furniture from wall to wall has been placed in all elementary grades, while new buildings have been constructed at Emerson, Jefferson, and Will Rogers, with an addition being added to the junior High School that doubled its capacity. Our schools are meeting the challenge of the times under the able and sincere guidance of our Superintendent, Mr. S. Pres lf you have had your eyes or ears checked at school or if you have attended a college career conference since you have been a student at McAlester High School, then you have benefited directly from the services of the Nlcklester High School P-T.A. llowever, their services are not all so generally known to the student body. Meeting monthly, this group of interested parents and faculty members discuss all phases of education and seek ways in which they can better lVl.H.S. A progressive school system is one which can benefit from the hard work as well as suggested improvements for the betterment of the system as contributed by such interested groups as the P-T.A. We are indeed fortunate to have this group and the administration working hand in hand as it makes for better relations among students, parents and teachers. The flashy Buffalos trounced the Durant Lions 32-26 in one of the roughest football games ever witnessed in this area. Fullhack McClendon crossed the goal line three times and guard Tom Patterson recovered a fumble in Durant's end zone for a spectacular touchdown. BUFFS TRAMPLE HENS 27-7 Exhibiting a polished performance of team blocking the Buffalos scored for 27 points while holding the Hens to 7 points. Martin passed to ends Doug Bell and Dennis Brown for two touchdowns. HUGO UPSETS McALESTER 14-7 The Buffalos appeared to be extremely over-confident as Hugo upset them 14--7. The team never seemed to get rolling as the offense was slow almost to a stop. BUFFS DROP CONFERENCE GAME TO WEWOKA The number two team proved too strong for the charg- ing Buffs. The Buffalos did not concede defeat until the last play as they battled the Tigers all the way. The Buffs, running game worked smoothly until they pene- trated the 30-yard line, but our offense could score only once while the Wewokans scored three times. The final score was 21-7.
