Since its beginning 50 years ago, McAlester High School has made steady progress in scholastic, athletic and social fields. In the 1953 Dancing Rabbit, we are attempting to make a comparison ot the school days of titty years ago and ours of today. We hope we present this fiftieth year in the history of our school in such a manner that, whenever in the future you should look at this annual, 1953 will come alive for you again. Opening the '52 season with a new Coach and many inexperienced players, the Buffaloes fought vainly against some of the better teams in the state. The team met Okmulgee in Harmon Stadium and bowed before them 27-6. One week later, on Oct. 2, they met a strong team on the Durant home field. A better team with more hustle won. The score: McAlester 12, Durant 7. Refreshed from this victory, the Buffs tore into Henryetta, but lost 21-19. On the following Friday night, the Buffs met the Hugo Buffs and with some stellar running, blocking, and tackling, McAlester won 33-20. On the next Friday night the Buffs faced the Wewoka Lions at home. The game was a see-saw affair and ended up 13-13, with McAlester winner on penetrations 5-3. On October 3, the Buffs boarded the bus and traveled to Holdenville. After a hard fought struggle, Holdenville was the 14-2 victor. At 8 p.m., November 7, the Buffs met the Ada Cougars at Ada and lost 38-19. The last game was played at Jeff-Lee and pitted the Buffs and Seminole Chief- tains. After a hard fought game, the Chieftains won 32-0. This game closed the season with the Buffaloes winning three and losing seven. With the putting away of football Togs, the sound of basketball began to echo in the gym once again. After about two weeks of practice the Buffs met the Okmulgee Bulldogs at home. The game was close, but McAlester lost, 59-55. Smarting from this defeat, the Brumley men went after the Muskogee Roughers and beat them 56-55. This victory was the first of a six game winning streak. They avenged the earlier loss to Okmulgee by winning the game, 45-38. Their next four games were wins over Muskogee, 44-41, Seminole, 58-49, Henryetta, 55-41, and Atoka, 43-41. On January 9, 1953, tht Buffaloes met the Holdenville Wolverines at home. This game was a heartbreaker with Holdenville the winner, 47-46. The team was not discouraged by this and beat Wewoka, 50-38, only to lose to Ada, 52-47. Playing at Wilburton the home quintet met and defeated Hugo, 51-31, to begin a new series of consecutive wins. Wewoka fell, 44-42, Henryetta lost, 47-33, and Holdenville bit the dust, 47-28. These successes were partly nullified by the only two consecutive losses of the season: Stonewall beat us 51-44 at the Ada tourna- ment and Ada repeated with a 40-47 victory. On February 13, the Buffaloes were off on another string of games won. We won from Seminole, 47-45, Atoka, 61-44, and Hugo, 68-37. With season play incomplete the McAlester High School team boasts a record of 14 games won and 5 lost. This record will compare favorably with any cage squad of the past or future. 2 3 T fast gil kcfb ll ,Cer erm 14 LEN G STONE LYNN SHERILL CLESTER HARRINGTON BOB OVERTON M MAYFIELD TOM DABBERT LEW CROWL NEAL TALLEY KENNETH BLAIR BOB COBB L 5 I 4 F X.
