TH :L ANCING Barr N45 and also ohnme W ooden whose chref dellght IS to answer questlons tn physics South Larolrna sent us ohn Thompson our noted advrser and from drfterent parts of Oklahoma hawe come Katrxna C lyde Harris our class secretary and Mamie Sparkman our perpetual motlon machine a strrkmg evcamplc of how often sclentlsts lmpose untenable theories upon the 'arty whrch theorres later are proved by experrence to be false ln the fourth grade we contrnued to thme and absorb culture at an astomshrng rate but we strll lacked some of the elements that go to make up an rllustrrous class ln our ftfth year some of these CICHCICHCISS were supplred for Qhto hearmg of our drre need of a mrschre these years L ella Marcum who rs famed rn Latm was an endowment from Arkansas a state not famed for producmg geniuses of Lella s Xarlety The year l906 was one of great sorrow to us for two of our dearest teachers Mrsses Parsons and Ogden passed away xxfltll thelr death we lost two of the truest frlends but thelr lovmg mfluence has remamed wrth us through all our school days ln the year 1906 the two towns of North and South McAles1er were consolxdated lqhrs made rt necessary for all the puplls of North McAlester who were above the srxth grade to jom the seventh grade of the McAlester school We were not overyoyed when we were mformed that North McAlester s famed four w ere to jom us but when upon thelr arrrval we found that Ernest Schremer the model actor was among them we rmmedrately welcomed htm wrth open arms Nor were we drsappornted rn the others for among them were Damon Wat son whose chrefambltron rs to be Mr Lockes successor as mstructor rn algebra Mabel Rogers who always makes lt her duty to be wrse and compllment the teachers and Veva Hopkms whose chref ambltlon 15 hard to deflne About thus trme lndlana sent us the greatest grft of all Mary Rose our most talented musrcran Wrth all of these great elements you need not be surpnsed when I tell you that It was here that we began to make hrstory and to occupy a posrtron all our own For lt was at this time that we purchased the beautiful picture of Str Galahad whlch now adorns the walls of our assembly hall At the end of that year we departed from the seventh grade wrth glad hearts thmkmg of the burldmg we were to enter on the next September But that much looked forward to September day was a very dreary one for rt was cold and rarmng and our burldmg was not completed But we drd not grve up and every trme we looked out of the wmdow of the cold elghth grade room our droopmg sprrrts were cheered by the srght of the raprdly rrsmg walls ofthe new burldmg How well do we remem ber that Monday mornmg when Mr Locke came rn wearrng a smlle that would not come off and mformed us that we were to move When we were grven our seats how proud we felt and what a look of contentment rested on every face At first thmgs seemed a llttle strange for we were not accustomed to these numerous lrttle bells but not to hear a class bemg rn formed about CIVICS whrle you were trymg to figure out what X was equal to rn algebra was certamly a relief But we were Freshmen now and were not surprrsed at anythmg that took , , f N ll 5 ,ll 4 S I I I . l 9 t a ' sk ' tl U I .
