B BIT his Iflnakvihall Svprvah N February 17 a day which will long be remembered In basketball history the girls of the first team gave a spread for the members of the boys team just after they had won the lnter scholastic Basketball League pennant by ignomlntously trampling in the dust the aspirations of the l-laileyvillalns Poor Haileyville didnt have a show it was almost pitiful The score was 59 to l which tells thd whole painful story We pause to congratulate Halley ville on their one point They deserved it Of course there were extenuating circumstances and Halleyville was laboring under dtfhculties the main one of which was the fact that they had been making a futile effort to play boys basketball under girls rules They had never played under any other and when they got up against a boys team they hardly knew how to act lf theylhad only worn bloom ers it might have but as the story is supposed to deal with the spread let us pass on Before going into detail it might be well to explain the chocolate episode While the game was going on someone whose name cannot be published but whose initials are George Warren was supposed to be faithfully duty and do it noble but it is the general opinion that too many cooks spoiled the broth The cook and his first assistant seem to have had too much on their hands Anyway most of the delicious chocolate stuck to the bottom of the pan and alter one little sip a wry face and a few choice remarks no one cared to try it again At the end of the first half just to relleye the monotony of the game several of the musically inclined mounted to the study hall and put on a song and dance While the melodious strains of that charming rail road ballad Casey ones floated through the hall one of the light footed members of the class which is to graduate did a buck and wtng stunt that was really a work of art This is being kept a secret and no one is su posed to know anything about it so please keep it to yourself By the way the dancer wishes most em phatically to deny that a table was used as a platform lt isnt so Why certainly not! After this glorious victory not the one in the study hallj while the boys were going through their usual performance of trying to find either their own clothes or some others just as good the girls cleared the gym of everything including small boys and spread a delightful lunch on a tablecloth on the floor The gym was gor geously decorated for the occasion with a pennant and a rlbbon and for a centerpiece for the table there was a doll dressed in a gym suit The fact that the doll was pigeon toed which was not the poor doll s fault called forth more than one bright remark from the diners The boys can say bright things as well as they can play basketball Some of the jokes were funny The bunch sat down in Chinese fashion which consists merely of letting your knees collapse and retaining the position you find yourself in when you strike the floor The beauty of this method of sitting down is that everyone feels so awkward that everyone else looks all right Truly tis a great invention It has been suggested that this method be used in the public schools But to get back to the subject the eatables were great Its a factl The girls certainly knew what ought to be on a bill of fare for a spread and nothing worth eating had been left out Everything went smoothly until it was discovered that some base wretch nad purloined a bottle of cherries Then the funny part of it was everyone thought everyone else was guilty so it was all right The empty bottle dead soldier, was found the next morning peacefully reposing on the study room table and not a cherry in sight Whoever got away with with them certainly did a most complete job , t I' i I l' .ll I H I X lk V .
