Everyday that we linger brings a growing appreciation of our many friends and the close relation we have had with all our leaders Now as we are about to leave this stage, we realize that we have a better perspective for our lives in the complicated social order in which we are to live. In the fall of 1947, twenty, happy, enthusiastic, pondering Freshmen enrolled in McAfee High School. Eight long years of hard work and dream- ing burst forth lnto reality as we were recognized by our fellow upper- classmen. Mr. Bruce Champion was our homeroom teacher. We found ourselves as active members in the Glee Club, Basketball Squad, Y-Teens, and F.F.A. We were thrilled when Jane Watts became nM1ss McAfee' for the year. We finished our Freshmen year by taking a trip to Fountain Ferry Park. That same fall, twenty-four Hgreenu Freshmen enrolled at Fairview. We were glad to welcome Miss Irene Dickerson and Mr. J. W. Stevens as our teachers. A very interesting year ended by the Freshmen taking a trip to Mammoth Cave. Due to the fact that we had three months of freedom, we entered our sophomore year with a greater determination to increase our knowledge. Mary Jo Bishop and Mary Alma Watson had moved away from our group. Emily Driskell became a farmer's wife. We still retained eighteen in number as Bobble Poulter, Barbara Beasley, Helen Price, Beatrice Lawson, and Bob Reynolds Joined our class. At mid-semester Helen Ruth Niceley came to us from Perryville. Under the leadership of Miss Mellie Matherly, principal, Mr. Bruce Champion, Mr. Stuart Guance, and Miss Neva Woods as teachers, we completed a very successful year. We received two honors. Jane Watts was elected high school queen again, and Emma Conder won outstanding recogni- tion in 4-H Club work. This year was full of entertalnment and fun, such as weiner roasts, giving parties, and preparing for our week-end trip to Mammoth Cave. In September of '49, six 'Jollyu Juniors from Fairview boosted the McAfee enrollment. Marvin Ward from Fairview quit school and Kenny Bob Horn came from Harrodsburgfjoined us. This year was bubbling over with ex- citement. Our plays HA Pair of Country K1ds', and HNo Backseat for Grand- man were entertaining. We were thrilled to know that Betty Yeast from our room got the most votes for high school queen. Our Junior year came to an end by taking the Seniors to Butler State Park, Carrollton, Kentucky. Mrs. Stewart Guance was our homeroom sponsor for this year. Finally, we reached our goal HD1gn1f1ed Senlorsn. The year has been very successful under the leadership of our principal, Mr. William D. Pile. We look upon the production of our play nThe Daffy Dlllsn as one of the best we have done. Of course there was much fun and hard work getting out our annual, preparing for commencement, and giving class night. Now that the year has ended, we shall always look back to this year of our lives as one of the happiest and most successful. I stole a quiet retreat to my library to re-read the itinerary letter from my classmates. I rested my weary head against the back of the chair. Could it be possible that ten long years had passed? A strange feeling of repose came over me, and I found myself wandering into a strange land, but yet, many things were so real. There were many beautiful trees and a magnificient building. I peeped in the window and saw a teacher explaining how to bake, cook and sew. It was none other than Emma Conder. Odell Curtsinger was waiting at the school to take his son home. After her last class of physical education for the day, I saw Jenean Mooney walking home with the star football player As head doctor of the Veterans Hospital in McAfee, I saw Betty Yeast prescribing some green beans for her patient, while Elizabeth Davis went from room to room with a word of cheer for every soldier. At the desk Roma Jean Farney was seeking information concerning Fred Darson, a sergeant who had been wounded. Suddenly, I found myself in a big city surrounded by strange people, various noises and towering skyscrapers. A handsome bachelor said,uHello there fn I stopped to talk to Roger Moore. He was still trying to decide whether he wanted Frances Pinkston or Emma Conder for a wife. In the Trust Company Office, I saw Dorothy Jones taking dictation from her boss, Jimmy Wheeler. In the City High School, copying after the famous English teacher Mr. G. R. Reynolds, I saw Helen Ruth Niceley pondering over her student's English papers. In a grocery store, I met Virginia Pelley acting as cash- ier. Helen Price was designer in one of thelatest dress shops and was so sweet to help me decide on a new costume. Next, I met a very sedate book- keeper at Broyles Publishing Company. It was dear old Ann Ransdell. She smiled shyly as she related how she spends her evenings waiting for Bobbie Poulter to arrive. The next part of my dream took me back to Kentucky. At Ebenezer, Nancy Thomas was preparing her day's work while Earl Ransdell took care of their babies. As wife of an undertaker in Barboursville, Beulah Watts quietly assists her husband. A whirling sound and a gust of wind seemed to envelop me. I felt my- self floating through the air. My I I was glad that was over. Where is this? A beautiful home, scenic beauty and a pretty girl like that is only only found in California. It was Jane Watts waiting for H. P. Smith to come home on furlough. A bunch of old love letters lay at her feet and I noticed one of them was signed, Buddy McRay. A siren sounded and I was caught away. The odor of chemicals stiffled me, a man groaned, and I peer- ed into the face of our old coach, Mr. Champion. A firm but familiar voice said, uYou'll survive if you follow my orders.n It was the famous surgeon, Kenny Bob Horn who had made another successful operation. These visions caused me to awaken from my dream. As I returned to my porch to watch the sun set, one of our favorite English quotations came to my mind.
