CLASS HISTORY In September 1944 sixteen green freshmen entered High School at Fairview. We had often heard of “green freshmen”, but little did ve realize what it meant. It did not take us long however to find that we knew very little. Under the leadership of Mr. Bernice Pinkston, principal, Miss Irene Dickerson and Mr. Lucien Downey as teachers we soon begun to grow in knowledge. At the beginning of the second semester we lost three classmates: two became farmers, and one entered another school. We gained one from a near by school. We entered our sophomore year with thirteen members, one less than we had the year before. Our teachers were the same as of the preceding year. We had a very successful year. Due to the fact that we did not have the required number to main- tain a High School we entered the Sal visa High School to further our education in our Junior year. This changing of schools somewhat dis- couraged us, it caused four of our number to drop out of school. After being at Salvisa a few weeks we became accustoned to our new sur- roundings. Under the leadership of Mr. Delbert Cunningham, prin- cipal, Miss Frances Cox, Miss Vivian Isham and Mrs. Mildred Byer as teachers we completed a very successful year. Beginning to understand the reason for an education twenty-one students entered the Freshman class of the McAfee High School in September 1944. Mrs. T. G. Tamed was our principal. We enjoyed many high school activities. At the close of the year we had increased our ability to work. Our three months vacation was over all too soon. We returned and became sophomores with fifteen students in our class. Mis Lela Jane Harris came to our community and lead us in our school activit- ies as our principal. We finished our sophomore year by working hard but we felt that we had accomplished a great deal. Entering our junior year we had one less number. We welcomed Mr. H. H. Jones as principal. Still realizing that we must increase our knowledge if w'e are to have a happy future, w-e studied harder than the year before. As juniors we took part in the graduation exercises all the time wishing we might be able to reach that goal in 1948.
