Miss Donna Green was chosen Queen at half lime. To the ecstasy of these events the court was chosen as follows; Junior - Itegina Stewart, Sophomore - Susan Lyles, and Freshman - Debbie Stewart. A combination of beauty and person- ality makes Regina Stewart a lii ely alter- nate to the Queen ' s court. Although she represents the Junior Class, her friends are not limited to this handful. She is well liked by the entire student body. 108 Susan Lyles probably spends a great deal of her time conversing with friends on the phone. This is not uncommon, for her exuberant friend- liness is known to many at MHS. Susan is a cheerleader t his year, and one who shows an unusual amount of vitality. Debbie Stewert is our pretty and popular alternate from the Freshman Class. She is also a Color Guard for the MHS marching band. 109 Bessemer Cut-off Reporter Miss Judy Qwearengin Bessemer 9un Reporter Miss Debbie Parker no Athletics Jr. High Cheerleaders Boost Qpirit Under the leadership of the head and co-head cheerleaders, Cathy Rohrbach and Rlionda Rosser, the Jr. High Cheerleaders have done an outstanding job in boost- ing the Jr. High spirit. It seems that luck was just not with us during the 1st 2 games but the Jackets went down fighting hard. But the Jackets didn ' t give up. With a rekindled spirit and a desire to win the Jackets went on to win some very important games. The members of the student body as well as our team are very proud of our coaches who have worked very hard with the boys to produce a winning team. Each boy knows that it takes much hard work and desire to produce a winning team. We are very proud of our football team because of their exhilarating effort and the good sportsmanship they displayed. Intense concern for the game is but one of the many reasons why the Jackets had one of their better seasons. 118 Win or Lose, We Play Our Besf Coach Jobe gives instructions for next play. He was an outstanding ath- lete at Corinth High School . He par- ticipated in such sports as baseball, basketball, and football. Coach Jobe was especially outstanding in football. He was awarded a scholarship from Southern State College in Magnolia, Arkansas. Coaches look on with intense apprehension. Coach Gregg, one of our most valued coaches, is now coaching at his old Alma Mater. Vhile he at- tended McAdory, he participated in football, basketball, and uack. He is a former resident of McCalla, Ala- bama. 122 Coach adds protection. McADORY 3 OAK GROVE 13 Oak Grove really let us down this year. The Jackets played an excellent first quarter, both offensively and defensively. During the second half, the Tigers started throwing the ball from a shotgun position. Oir defensive backfield just didn ' t have experience enough to cope with all those flying balls. Manager assists player. Clialk up anotlier T.D, McADORY FAIRFIELD 39 Well we can always depend on Fairfield to come through. Fairfi eld was really up for this one. They had been preparing since last year ' s game. We played valiantly, but Fairfield ' s quantity was too much for our quality. The game was closer than the score indicates. Spirit after victory. 123 McADORY 7 SPARKMAN 6 The team played an excellent defensive game, holding the Sparkman Tigers to a near standstill. Our first victory of the season really boosted the spirit of both the team and the entire student body. Gentry reacts quickly to cover fumble. Team cheers victory on. But Leeds had other ideas. Luck was on their side as they cashed in on several of the costly Jacket mistakes. Pete Davis after hard earned victory. 125 Linemen McADORY 21 DORA 7 A victory at Homecoming is what every school wants. The Jackets proved they wanted it by a smashing victory over the Bulldogs. They played their finest game of the season that night. Dwight Gentry proved he could fill the quarter-back slot as well as anyone. 126 Coaches look over team during practice. Backfield 1 McADORY 14 WEST JEFFERSON 7 After the team finally found the school. West Jefferson was sorry we did. Although they played a good game , they could not hold up under the terrific pounding of the Jackets. McAdory eagerly looked forward to next week. No Stupid I Run this way I ' 127 McADORY 28 CORNER 13 The Jackets made it three-in-a-row with this one. Both teams played a great game with most of the offensive action taking place in the first half. One of the outstanding players was David Foote. For his great performance, he was awarded the Player of the Week award. Coach Dunn observes the team. w i? . The Jackets played a tough first half, but due to some costly mistakes, allowed two Cordova touchdowns. In the second half, even the elements turned against us. We had to fight the rain and sleet as well as the oppos- ing team. ' 1 oot (.yis iiicmy ball-carrier McADORY MINOR The Jackets went into this game in a fast and furious way. Hitting hard and fast they quickly proved to Minor that this game was not going to be a pushover. Minor won; but they really had to work for it. Keterees managed to get into the center of things. VEITCH, 5 ' 11 Forward, ilayed hustle and deterniina- throughout his Senior year. SAMMY OUSLEY, 5 11 Senior Guard, proved to be an expert shooter as well as a deft ball carrier. 143 Basketball . . . 19G8-69 Throughout the entire season, each boy worked as liard as he could to improve himself. Not only did he want to help the team in their effort to win, but also he wanted to represent his school in the best way he knew how. The loss of liie seniors of last year did not hurt the team as much as one might think. The driving ability of Allan Kendrick, the ball-handling of Ronnie Brasher, the rebounding of B. B. Woods, and the scoring of Sammy Ousley and George Lovelady more than overcame this loss. JERRY LIGHTSEY. a 5 ' 10 Junior Forward, proved to be a real Ilireat to the opposing team and a tremendous asset to us. 144 II ALLAN KENDRiCK, our 6 Junior Forward, exhibited strong driving and sharp out -side shooting. Mike Higginbotham, Randy Pate, Ronald Kimbrell, Dwight Gentry, Ray Green, Jerry Johnson. The way these boys played ball was proof that McAdory will have some excellent varsity strength in a few years. They went into every game with a feeling of determina- tion and a desire to win. They clearly demonstrated to the other team that they were not ones who gave up easily. Mc- Adory is very proud of all of them. Why won ' t these pants stay up? 148 CAPTAINS Jr. High Developes Qkill The boys on the Jr. High Team realized that their individual efforts were what made up the team. None of them wanted to be the blame for holding the team back; therefore, each boy did his best in every game they played. Coach Sewell did a fine job in training and teaching these boys the skills of the game. Walls, Coleman, and Franklin were usually the high scorers with the others not far behind. O n ' . Only if the boy conditioned him- self fully will he be able to win. Wrestling is more individualized than any other sport. When a boy has defeated his opponent, he has only himself to thank, lie was the one wlio disciplined and developed himself for the match and no one else. Every boy on our wrestling team demonstrated this ability. ISO 1 968-69 Wrestling Team STANDING: Robin Fowler, Dwight Gentry, Jake Bunn, B. B. Woods, Lynn Baswell, Barry Gentry, Pat May.
