Here we have pictured a group of teachers who hold the admiration and esteem of the entire student body. Many a time we have relied on them and they have given their aid willingly. and have contributed much of their ability to development and success of the year book, and to the class as a whole. Some of the many things con- tributed by this group of teachers during our stay in the high school were the follow- ing, a beautiful piano which we all have enjoyed during our high school days. The Health room completely furnished and which at present is one of the outstanding rooms in the high school, and many books with book cases to aid us in the quest of knowledge. Therefore, as a mark of gratitude for their ever unselfish cooperation, we reserve this space for them and sincerely hope that they may gain the admiration and apprecia- tion of future graduates. It hardly seems possible that almost four years have passed, probably because they have been such happy and busy ones. Altogether, we were a comparatively small group numbering only fifty-five. As freshmen we were active members in all organizations and succeeded in distinguishing ourselves in various activities. The biggest event of our first year was the introduction of football as a major sport. At the opening of our sophomore year, we welcomed a new teacher in the presence of Mr. Bunsa who succeeded Mr. Regelski. Music was introduced into our curriculum with Mr. Gallagher as the instructor. Our new latin teacher Mr. Bunsa, organized the Latin Club in 1933 which was the outstanding event of the second year. The life of a junior was a hard one, however, success crowned every effort and this year proved to be a very favorable one. Throughout the term, we were active members of the athletic association. A minstrel and an operetta were also presented during the year, both proved to be very successful. Then came the senior year, the last and the best. During this year, a Latin Cicero Club and the Spanish La Prensa Club were organized. The La Prensa Club held a party on February 27th., 1933. It proved to be successful and the members enjoyed the manner in which it was conducted. The outstanding musical event of the year was the operetta Chonita whose cast consisted mostly of seniors. Now we are on the line all Set ready for the word Go. lt is a sad time, this closing period, for we loved our work, our friends and school. Here we spent four happy years, With PROP. SNOICH, our overseer. Those are the days we adore As years multiply, we value more and more. Always they shall be dear to us, And in our minds shall never rust. If only we could see ten years ahead, Some of us may be living, some dead. After twenty years of travelling, I made up my mind to return to McAdoo which some time ago was my dear old home town. I came here by airplane which was piloted by Edward Roman. Of course we were greatly surprised with each other and during the time we were riding I told him of all our classmates I have met in different parts of the world and how famous most of them became. While I was in Italy, I went to a theatre and there to my astonishment I saw Frank Voccola giving a concert on the stage. Upon leaving the theatre whom should I sec but James Labert who was the manager of the theatre. I was told by him that the theatre was under the ownership of Philip DeFrank. I beheld now a different sight. It was a scientists convention in Germany and there I saw Fred Carter addressing the group. As I left Germany my next trip was to Ireland. Here I came upon Kathleen Daily who was a dietician for Daniel Curry and his family. While still here I heard Mary Boyle singing My Wilzl lrixb Roxz ' over an International Broadcasting radio. Later as I came across the Atlantic I beheld a section of the slums of New York, where I found Millie Chepenuck, Helen Scwartz and Violet Noga doing everything possible for the better- ment of humanity in the Social Service Work. Yes and there was john Tutko too, helping the poor up to the minute when he was to sail for Czeckoslovakia where he was to receive his Dr. of Divinity Degree. I finished all I was to say to the pilot and finally in a few days I landed on McAdoo's largest flying field which twenty years ago was known as the McAdoo mountain. As I looked from the flying field I saw that McAdoo was no longer a borough but a large city with many large skyscrapers. Finally, I halted a taxicab which I discovered was driven by Anthony Matweecha. I had him stop at the main hotel which bore the name of Hotel Baron. As I approached inside I came to a table and here I was waited on by a tall blonde waiter who seemed quite familiar to me and in the meantime I found out he was none other than Michael Petreskey. That evening I went to a dance held at the Peacock Hall in McAdoo. The orchestra which furnished the music that evening was directed by Joe Bunsa, a well talented leader. Next day I went to 'Iupina's drug store in which Andrew was the owner and pharmacist. Later in the day I went to see a relative of mine who was ill at the Hazleton State Hospital of which George Kalinchock was the Superintendent and the chief nurse at the hospital at this time was Mary Brewery. I was greatly surprised to see that the nurse attending to my cousin was my old friend Anna Kakalec. Where in the world are you keeping yourself?,' asked Anna, rushing up to me. I told her I was on a tour around the world and now I arrived home. All of a sudden I heard an alarm clock ringing and I immediately jumped from bed in my own home, only a High School girl. Finally, I looked at the clock and there it was already fifteen minutes after eight' o'clock. I was to be in school at eight o'clock and it being fifteen minutes later, I decided to stay at home. All during the day I thought of the dream and wished that some day it would come true. We did not know at that time what high school really meant, but we saw Mt. Education looming in the distance it seemed to consist of four steep grades: Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. When we entered we found ourselves in an unfamiliar environment, but Contact with teachers and upper classmen soon drove this feeling of uncertainty from our minds. As soon as the aHfecting discomhture left us we hastened to cooperate with everyone in all activities. Immediately we began to climb the first steep grade, and tried to win the confidence and understanding of the upper classmen. We strove, by the aid of our guides, who were the members of the faculty, to take advantage of every op- portunity which presented itself. We found ourselves well represented on the roll of honor and the end of our first grade to reach the summit of Mt. Education was conquered. Therefore, we returned in the September of Nineteen Thirty Two, to take up tasks anew under the capable leadership of our former officers. We felt a little proud because we were superior to the Freshies -we at last had someone to look up to us. The band was organized -Ianuary 1, 1929, By Mr. Horne with a membership of 50, including the musically inclined of the upper six grades of the McAdoo schools. Uni- forms were purchased that same year, and the band made a very striking appearance in them. The uniforms consisted of white duck trousers, maroon capes, and trench caps. The hand made its first appearance at a music festival held in Lakewood, May 30, 1929. Here the band received a reputation of being one of the best newly organized bands in the county, which it has maintained ever since. September 3, 1930 marked a great change in the history of the band. The super- vision of the band was taken over by Prof. Frank Gallagher, our present director. Under the supervision of the present director the band has increased both in size and music. Passing briefly over thc next few years, the band had attended all music festivals, which were held annually at Lakewood. ln the year of 1932 we were guests of the Kiwanis Club and we were also seen and heard at all local activities. This same year we led the business men's parade held in Hazleton. ln the latter part of the year we also participated in the business men's parade held in McAdoo. At this time of the year we attended all the football games, and in many cases the cheering of the band spurred the boys on to victory. Turning to the Hnal chapters of the band's history we find the band preparing for the annual music festival. Our industrious director also is preparing to till in the gaps that are left byfthe graduation of the class of 1933. ff lj KA ,fri '.Q' ,xl 'P A,a 4'-'+P .1 Y i ' I ' T . J -ff r . With the selection of Mr. Edward Bunsa as the dramatic coach the Thcspians progressed rapidly, so that dramatic art at present is on a par with all the extra-curricular activities. Being handicapped ny having only three veterans from the preceeding year, our coach faced with this difficulty, began in earnest to build up a new team, using these three veterans as a nucleus. After weeks of strenuous and diligent practice, Coach Boyle saw in his proteges a promising foot-ball team, of which the members of the talented class of '33 were outstanding, Qwhich we naturally expectedj. We opened our suicide schedule with the strong Gilberton team. After weeks of anticipation the opening game arrived. This game was played at the new stadium in East McAdoo, before a large crowd of loyal followers of the Maroon and White. The game was packed with thrills from the opening kickoff. After three quarters of hard and spectacular foot-ball, Butranavage intercepted a forward pass and raced 80 yards for the only score of the game. The game ended with a score 6-0 in our favor. Thus we emerged victorious in our Hrst encounter. The next week we journeyed to Nesque- honing, and here for the Hrst time McAdoo was beaten. On record it goes down as a defeat but it was a moral victory for us. The next game was played at McAdoo. This game in the eyes and opinions of the fans was the best foot-ball game witnessed at St. Michael's stadium. Nescopeck took the lead by scoring in the first quarter and lead at half time, 13-6. Everyone expected a repetition of the Nesquehoning game, but the team entered the field an inspired lot for the second half, and began turn- ing the tide with a touchdown in the third quarter. Then in the closing minutes of the game, after a sustained drive of sixty five yards, Voccola, after a brilliant run crossed the goal line for the winning touchdown. The final whistle blew ending the game, the score being 18-13. The next Saturday was a gloomy one, the cause being a, 9-0 defeat at the hands of Coaldale. ln this game the maroon and white line displayed great defensive power. The next game was played at Mauch Chunk against a high school from the county seat. We had a comparatively easy day, beating Mauch Chunk to a tune of 19-0. The following Saturday we had the St. Jerome High School of Tamaqua as our attraction in a game that was turned to a rout. This game was a breather before the greatest game of the year, the West Hazleton Game. After scoring at will in every period the game ended with the score 33-6. Then came the classic of the season, the West Hazleton game on Armistice Day, a game that was thrilling from start to finish. Although outweighed our boys put up a great battle, and it was only the last minutes that decided the victory. The most thrilling event of the afternoon was a touchdown by Voccola, who after intercepting a pass, raced 80 yards for a touchdown. The final whistle blew with a score 25-13 in favor of West Hazleton. The last game of the season was played at home, against the strong Freeland High School. It was a swan song of eleven seniors of the foot-ball squad. It turned out to be a senior day, because they shone in every department of the game. But this last game came to a close all too soon, because it was the last time we were to wear the colors of our dear Alma Mater. The score 38-0 in our favor, and for the second straight year we remained undefeated on our home field. Thus before we close this Hnal chapter, we wish success to the boys wearing the colors of our Alma Mater on the gridiron. iff 'lyluwf 'Ti 'lllll if 3 ll X D -- ,511 r , A X as X, 1 . f -FSF, , TT34 , lf 7v'G i5f7- 1' Xsllo ff 1353- fe e . fa 'C-Q -' H 'W ill -X mr.: 5' .L,E. Coach Boyle was again faced with the task of building a team from a group of inexperienced aspirants. A hard season faced this inexperienced team, the fact being their entry into the new Mountain league. When the date of the opening game arrived, we found many new faces on the squad. The first game was played against the Delano High School, in which we were defeated by a seore of 19-1 l. lt was a hard fought battle, and it was due to the inex- perienced team that we lost. But when the next game arrived our team had proved that they had profited by their defeat and this was shown by their victory over Nescopeck by a score of 28-17. ln the following week we were defeated by the strong Wegltherly High School team by the score 35-16. The next game was played against the Hazle 'I'ownship High School at home. They came here expecting an easy victory, but received .1 big surprise when we defeated them to a tune of 19-24. It was a tough game to lose, but our boys made up for it by winning the next two games, the hrst victory was over the Sheppton High School by a score of 23-17, and then Hazle Township received their second beating from McAdoo by a score 21-15. Journeying to our neighboring city we played against the pennant winners of the Catholic loop, the St. Gabriel's High School. This was the hardest game of the year. After leading thru the entire game we were nosed out in the closing minutes of play. With only ten seconds of the game remaining, the score was tied. It was at this moment that an opposing player was fouled and he made good the shot thus ending the game with the score standing 25-24 in their favor. The next week we had as our attraction the St. Jeromes High School, in a game which we were defeated by a score of 28-8. Then in our last game of the season, we met defeat at the hands of the strong Sheppton High School team by a score of 21-17. - 17-'x 4-fy s gl 14. 2 Y E95 2 1 . fig . +G'-. ,f -X f X lil'-milf: la J J ' H ,i f K V Q 252 gf .4 f Q K l Z X l1 'W LM 4 , 4 eq X TRACK A new sport was introduced to our High School last spring. It was track and field. It was a sport unfamiliar to the students and fans of the town, but by the untiring efforts of our coach, Mr. Boyle, a team composed of the most capable athletes was put out on the field and all ready to compete with other schools. The first track meet in which we competed was against the Coaldale High School team, at Coaldale, May 7. Needless to say that we were defeated to a score of 52-Z1 but it was largely due to the inexperience of our boys. Two weeks later we had as our opponents in a dual meet, the fast stepping aggregation from West Hazleton High School. It turned out to be the biggest upset of the yearg McAdoo considered the under-dog came thru to capture five of the eight events. The final score was 41-40 in our favor. As the school term was drawing to .1 close we entered in the county meet held which proved to be too fast for our boys. Ending our hrst track season we expect to develop this sport more than ever, we know that our future teams will be able to go to the future county meets and make the competition pretty steep for the rest of the schools in the county. , -lf' '- 2 i f rsss e it i e i f c , 3 i - nfs! f i f rife it ll ! Evans, better known as fighting Bob found himself one Sunday morning in a city far from home, and wanted to attend services. He went into a fashionable church, and was ushered into a pew, the usher evidently believing that it's owner would not appear that morning. However he did come, and made his way unushered to the pew. He became indig- nant at Ending a stranger there, but retired to the church without saying a word to the admiral, who had not seen him. Calling an usher, the pew-holder took out his card, peneiled a few words on it, and directed the usher to take the card to thc intruder. The admiral read the Card, on which was written: Sir, I pay a thousand dollars a year for that pew. The admiral took his pencil and wrote on the cardg You pay too damned much. DISAPPOINTMENT IN HEAVEN The editor of a country newspaper visited a big city while Presidcnt McKinley was dying, and was greatly impressed by the issuance of the hourly bulletins telling of the presidents condition. The editor decided to adopt the same system when any promin- ent eitizen of his own town was ill. He soon had an opportunity to put the idea into effect. Deacon Tutko became seriously ill, and the editor posted the bulletins in the front of his office: l P. M. Deacon Tutko seriously ill. 2 P. M. Condition of Deacon Tutko slightly better. 3 P. M. Deacon Tutko takes a turn for the worse. 4 P. M. Deacon Tutko has died and gone to heaven. The village wise-guy passed that way and added one of his own. 4:30 P. M. Great excitement in heaven: Deacon Tutko has not arrived yet. THE OUTSTRETCHED PA LM So you're going to Europe? asked one American of another. Yes, this summer.
