Outstanding Season For Cross Country The Mayville Cross Country had a spec- tacular season this year. Competing in class C they won their Conference meet and went to Regionals taking first out of 55 schools. Later at the State meet they took sixth place. Five top runners, Ed LaBair, Dale Hool, Bob McLane, Don Giddings, and Terri Diegel each made “All Conference.” This is the first time in Mayville’s Cross Coun- try history that five members of the same team accomplished this. Records set throughout the season: Bob McLane set course record at the Vassar meet of 15:58; Ed LaBair set record at the Vassar Invitational of 15:13; and Ed LaBair set a new Conference record of 15:36. Ed LaBair and Dale Hool made the All State Class C Cross Country team, with Ed LaBair coming in first and Dale Hool taking sixth place in the State meet held at Sturgess. A monster got him! The Mayville Golf Team returned this year with four letterman and six new players. They put out a great effort toward playing competi- tive games. Our top golfer was Phil Asmus with an average of 40.6. While we have only one Senior, Tracy Bradley, leaving the team. Although they never won a dual meet there is always the theory that “practice makes per- fect. Coach Collon is expecting everyone back next year. The Varsity Wildcats of 1976 compiled a 2 and 7 record. The victories were over Deckerville 6-0 and Ubly 22-6. The team finished 5th in the Western Division of the Big Thumb Conference. Mainly due to a lack of team depth and inexperience in key positions the team’s overall record was not that impressive. However, sever- al players did give excep- tional individual efforts. Next year’s squad will have nine returning lettermen, five Juniors and four Se- niors will make up the nu- cleus of the team and pro- vide leadership for the young- er players coming up. 125 Varsity Basketball First Row: D. The Girls9 Basketball team of Mayville High School has been in existence for its fourth year now and is building very well. This fact was complemented with more conference wins and the highest re- bounds and total scores ever. Coach Cur- rell comments, “We’re getting better eve- ry year. A total summary left them with four wins and ten losses. The captains position was shared by Karen Patterson and Lori Diegel. Lori Die- gel made second team All-Conference and was rated best defensive player. There are six graduating seniors leaving and five Junior letterman returning.
