As a result of this study the Board of Education appointed a local Citizen's Planning Committee, in January of 1966. The Architect William Prine was engaged by the Board of Education to work with this committee. The reorganization of Tuscola County Schools in May of 1966 further showed the need for additional school facilities. A Bonding Election was successful in September 1966 for 1.9 million dollars to build and equip a new senior high school. Bonds were sold and bids were taken with the ground breaking taking place in August of 1967. After several delays due to strikes and weather the school was finally occupied in April of 1969. The official dedication ceremonies were held in May 1969. The 1970 Yearbook is dedicated to the new Senior High School. This is the first complete year we have had in it. The ground breaking ceremonies took place in August 1967. Pictured here are: Mr. Thienes, Mr. Manwell, Mr. DeGrow, Mr. Wallace, Mr. Sullivan, and Mr. Sugden. 5 Our new auditorium is equipped to seat 410 people, and is said to be one of the best in this area of the state. A visit to the new high school will confirm how nice our new general office is compared to the old one. It has modern equipment along with more room to use it in. We have anew chemistry room which is agreat improvement. The old chemistry room was constructed in the 1930’s. It's modern facilities contribute to the students learning. The gymnasium has room for 1,540 fans and this year Mayvllle held its first District Basketball Tournament in which Mayville participated. It is also the first year in a long time that you could go to a game and not have to worry about finding a seat. Our new cafeteria accommodates 250 students during the lunch period. It is also used for study hall and club meetings at various hours of the day. 51 students can work or just The home economics room has all the modern facilities of a real home. Along with sewing machines, it has complete kitchens and washers and dryers. 7 The new high school has a capacity of 500-600 students, and as you can see the halls are spacious. On the upper floor of the shop, they work with wood. At noon hour the students get their daily exercise playing volley ball and other games. Metal work, such as welding, is taught on the lower floor of the shop area. The new biology room is a giant compared to the old one. It has plenty of room in which the students can work on various projects. 02“ ADMINISTRATION Superintendent JEROME THIENES Board Of Education FRED MOSS RAY MANWELL LAURENCE TOMLINSON President Secretary T reasurer o High School Principal WILLIAM LAMIMAN Elementary Principal RALPH BARBER Assistant Principal FREDERIC H.
