In six of the games Mayville defeated their opponents in every statistic but the one that goes on the sc ore board-the score. This tells something of the spirit and desire of the 1968 Mayville High School Football Team. In season averages Mayville had more first downs (73-69) and more yards gained rushing (1461-1342) than their opponents. However their opponents out-distanced them in the passing department (279 yds.-625 yds.) and the scoring department (Mayville 8 pts. per game-Oppo- nents 19 pts. per game.) That never-give-up attitude was seen in every game. A great team effort marked the end of the season, ending with an overall 4-15 record. The 1968 Mayville Cross Country team led by team Captain Jack McKenzie compiled an 8 win 2 loss record, losing twice to the very strong North Branch team. For the fourth year Clare Kreger was voted most valuable team member and proved it by setting a new course record on every dual meet course he ran this year. Vassar Lakers Sandusky Cros-Lex Strong showings by newcomers Floyd Walker and Roger Sholes coupled with Junior Randy Frenzel and a group of good Sophomores helped this team to a good year. This season was rewarding for the Junior Varsity Football team, their record was six wins and one loss. Their success has come about mainly because of their teamwork and determination. The J.V. had and kept the right attitude. Much of their great season can be contributed to the strong play of our offense and defensive lines. Running Laps Mayville 0. . . . Ubly 7 Mayville 6. . . . The Junior Varsity Basketball team for 1968-1969 wound up with an unimpressive 2-13 season. However the box score was not a real indicator of the time and effort that the boys put into their preparation. If they learned one thing from this season, it was that you don’t give up just because you have a handicap or you don’t quit just because you are behind. Because that is what these boys did not do, give up or quit. They won their last game. FRESHMAN BASKETBALL J.V. Scores Mayville 51. . . . Akron Fair grove 74 Mayville 71. . . . The pitching duties were handled capably by Bill Barkowska, who received credit for two wins, Frank Osowski and Tom Marlow, each of whom pitched one-hit victories. Leading a strong batting attack were Osowski, .388; Gerald Van Sickle, .385; Jim Bodeis, .375; and Marlow, .292.
