In neat uniform, (At times much too warm). With one motion, the band steps ahead. And the listening crowd. Each heart bursting proud, By the music is cheerfully led. This band is their joy- Each gay girl and boy Is the pride of the old hometown! They’re building tradition- A musical mission- Pointing onward toward fame and renown. There’s been joy and tears. And much fun and fears. Building up to this favored place. There was worry and work- With no time to shirk- Leaming zealously, poise and grace. No dawdlers would do- They learned promptness through The director’s capable hands. And there’s no way to measure The depth of our pleasure In the best of all hometown bands! -Marian Benedict Man well 7 STATE SOLO Veneita Robinson and Ron Roth TROPHIES-PLAQUES-MEDALS uuuuuuuuu Although a band existed before 1939 no records were kept and neither were there any kept in the war years from 1942- 1951. Below, to the best of our knowledge, is a record of the ratings received by the May ville Band. (If you receive a II at the District you are unable to go to the State). fli.stri£l State Received all I’s except for the years of 52, 53, 55, 60, and 63. 1939-1941 - not known. Received I's in 56, 57, 64, 65, 66, and 67. II’s in 54, 58, 59, and 61, and a III in 62. The District stopped awarding plaques from World War II to 1962. The only way a band could receive a plaque or trophy would be to receive a 1st or 2nd at the State. Most bands in the state found this quite hard to do. The medals shown in this picture were all earned by Junior and Senior Band members this year. 2nd District Solo Ensemble (Junior High-No State) 15 14 District Solo Ensemble (Senior High) 17 17 State Solo Ensemble (Senior High Only) 12 9 District Band 80 State Band 80 TOTAL 325 A student must have received a 1st Division at the District Festival to qualify for the State.
