Left to right. R. Harris, R. Gotham, G. Maiers, B. Harris, E. Wenta, D. Kreuger. We had a good year in basketball this year even though our overall record didn’t show it. Our record was hurt by the fact that we did not win one of our nonleague games. However, this did not hurt us in our race for the league title. We ended up third in the league. This means that only two teams proved that they were better than us. In other words, we proved that we were as good as, if not better than, the five other teams in the league. Also, early in the year, we beat one of the two teams that ended up higher than us. It is certainly a credit to these team members for the job that they have done. This is even more evident when you realize that seven of the thirteen members had never played varsity basketball before this year. In special recognition, A1 For, junior, and Roy Gotham, senior, were voted on the second team a 11-conference this year. A good pat on the back for all thirteen for a job well done. 43 BASKETBALL SNAPS Starting players: Left to Right: G. Maiers, R. Walker, R. MAYV1LLE VS SEBWAING Harris, A. Fox, R. Beach. This made us an inexperienced team. We had a rough start and did not play real well. It Looked like we were going to have a long, rough season. However, we pulled together as a team, ironed out some mistakes and came on to have a real good year. We ended up losing the championship game to Kingston by one run. I think it is a real tribute to all twenty three team members that they did not give up. They forced themselves to improve and to get into the league race. Five of our starting nine ball players were mentioned in the all-conference ballot. Selected to the first team were Roy Gotham, short stop, and Jerry Torrey. On the second team were A1 Fox, center field, and Doug Kreuger, first base, and receiving honorable mention was Bill Petiprin. A excellent job by a fine team. 45 CROSS COUNTRY TRACK mlrsonOWC.WefLveTr0 Mr‘ WeaVer (Coach) R Harris- T- E. Bailey. B. Sugden, C. Kreger. M. Lynch, J. We would all like to take this opportunity to congratulate them on their performance, and for bringing recognition to our school on a state wide basis. The entire year was an excellent one, marked by successes in many areas. Below we have listed some of this year's accom- plishments, and hope by doing so, we have indicated in some way much of the hard work and talent that have gone into making this year a tremendous success. 1.Marched at ail home, and two away football games. 2. Produced the most spectacular halftime show, we have been told by newspaper men, ever seen in the northern Thumb. 3. Attended the University of Michigan Band Day. 4. Par- ticipated in the District Clinic Band, 5. Gave Christmas Concert. 6. Participated in Dis- trict Solo Ensemble festival, one of the three bands in the Thumb to do this. 7. Received straight l’s at the District band festival. 8. Participated in the State Solo Ensemble Fes- tival 9. Received a 1st Division at the State Band Festival. 10. Gave one of the best spring concerts in history. 11. Made a re- cording of Festival and Concert Music. 12. Performed at numerous school and commu- nity functions. 13. Marched in parades for various school and community functions. In our adulations about the senior band, we do not intend to slight the younger bands. We realize that these bands mart work just as hard as does the senior band if the band program is to continue successfully. First Row - J. Lamiman, P. Sickler, J. Welke, M. Zaradny, P. Gotham, D. Yoe TYPE A ROOM SPECIAL EDUCATION One of the primary aims of Special Education is to help the child react as a growing child to situations both in and out of school and to establish habits and attitudes that will continue to operate as life goes on. It is important to discover the specific capacities of each child and to help him develop them to the high- est possible level. We plan to provide tasks and activities which will give the child a sense of security, a sense of belongingness, and a sense of being adequate in a classroom situation. 80 c A ■■■' rO U K ■■ • o, £■“r t ■- ;:-c- “ ■■ ■• •■: -r ?: s-v. ,-j - - -
