I've been looking up some of our old classmates. I saw Alice Stratton some time ago and she is happily married to the president of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Carole Lee Kukhan is now employed as field manager of Nancy Taylor schools. And did you know that Joanne Hoose finally found a job which was suited to her talents? You know how she could pucker up when she kissed. Well, she is now a traveling lemon taster for the United Fruit Company. Nancy Mikesell is doing very well as the head of her own music school. Have you noticed in Space Age Magazine the wonderful cartoons drawn by Tom Wargo? Incidentally, while I was traveling, I rode in one of the Zippo travel Agency's rockets and found out that the chief mechanic was none other than Jim Irwin. Danny Day recently gave a party celebrating the production of the one-hundred billionth egg at his gigantic chicken farm. I read in the paper recently that Montreal, Canada staged a contest with a prize for the largest family. Our own Sharon Booren was the winner. She and her husband. Bum Kelch, performed the admirable feat of having 27 children in ten years. Betty McSherry has been doing modeling in the Caro Thrift Shop fashion shows. The male fashions were admirably modeled by another classmate, Ray Shaver. Paul Kuzma gained National Acclaim for his great talents in guiding a recent safari to Cat Lake. Yalon Phelps is serving the community for a Cub Scout Den Mother at Shay Lake. Lawson and Alma Bennet recently received an award for their outstanding work in the crossing of a horse and a cow to produce a cow that is easily milked. Did you hear that Charles Baxter recently won a prize at the garden show for his beautiful pink lilies. Recently. I read a book written about the author’s life on a mule ranch in Western Australia. I was surprised to see that it had been written by Mary Dickerson. The book won her the Nobel prize for literature in 1971. Loretta TerBush and Willis Johnson are happily married and operating a successful motorcycle shop in Flint. We hear Loretta is a pretty good mechanic. Pat Lumly is owner and chief bartender at the North Grove Inn. She got the place in a divorce settlement from Douglas Schlattman, a promin- ent professor of English at Harvard University. We hear Marilyn Beach is stationed with her husband, an Air Force General, at the moon. Judy Clark is happily married to Fred Rietz, a successful flower seed salesman. I hear John Secord, Sandra Howard’s husband, is director of orderlies at Sparrow Byrd Hospital where you are employed. When I visited home last. I went to the Tuscola County Fair and was surprised to see Esther Middleton working as a barker at the side show. I was even more surprised to see Charolette Davis and Doris Figel selling peanuts and cotton candy at the next stand. I took in the grand stand show and was pleased that Louise Powers won the two mile modified junkers race. Kay Wells and Robby Sproule were married shortly after we graduated. He has a large office in the designing department of General Motors Corporation. Kay still keeps a part time'job as a well digger. I read in the Mayviile Monitor which is published by our old friend, Ron Gabolis. that Lloyd Smith was opening a plumbing shop in a part of the former Mayviile High School which as you know, was condemned a year after we graduated. The farmers of Tuscola County are fortunate in having Glen Fox as county agricultural agent. Louise Vat. according to the newspaper, is now starting out on her twelfth trip hitch-hiking around the world. She always had ambitions to travel. Jude Jo Moore and her husband. Wayne Hamilton, are the leaders of the fashionable social life in Fostoria. Have you heard that Dave Sweet was voted dance teacher of the year by the Arthur Murray Faculty? David Kontak is following his family tradition of working in the chemical industry. He was elected president of Dow Chemical recently. Ferol McCartney is teaching psychology at the University of Michigan. Nancy Leitner. Sharon Letter, and Katy Stilwell recently opened at the Club 24. Their dance team is one of the most popular acts in the area. Bodo Richter is managing a cuckoo clock factory in the Black Forrest region of Southern Germany. Harold Stratton Jr. is currently in Washington advising the President on Air Force affairs. Ken Friday is managing a used rocket lot owned by his wife, the former Kay Lyn TerBush. Katherine Strand has a rewarding position blowing bubbles for Lawerence Welk Jr. Norma Bell is working as a pump jockey at the Fairgrove Texaco station owned by her husband. Bill Cartwright. Howard Kitchen’s monkey act is one of the hits of the Barnum and Bailey Circus currently appearing in New York. Gordon Brown recently received an Olympic gold medal in the ping pong division. Ron Fox is a crack F.B.I. agent who was instrumental in the breaking up of a large illegal liquor ring headed by Karen Kitchen. It seems there were 600 gallons of moonshine found hidden in Miss Kitchen s apartment. Our old friends. Gloria Leach and Shirley Blackmer are doing very well these days. You know they took over the Fostoria Pool Hall a couple of years after we graduated. Carol Fryers and Janice TerBush were elected co-presidents of the Calisthenics Club. This is an organization formed to keep old cheerleaders in shape. 1 read in Glamour Magazine that Bob Hormel received the title role in a movie called The Tall Texan. It seems Hollywood can really do wonders with make-up these days. Mike Gohs is doing well on his Shetland pony ranch in Kingston. Vicky Karpenski is now head of the International Pen Pals Associa- tion. At a dinner recently, she exhibited 6 monkeys skins which had been sent to her by a pen pal in Africa. Richard Harris and Allan Kontak have opened a traveling dental clinic which follows the carnival across the country. Richard s wife, Betty, is the advertising manager. Mathews Truck-line has received the contracts to haul beer from the brewery where I am working as a taster. Your old classmate, 68
