Blackmore. K. TerBush. S. Hart. J. Reh. D. Robinson. D. Eldredge. Director. Another successful marching and con- cert year under the direction of David Eldredge has been brought to a close. It was a year which we can be proud of. The activities which we had the pleasure of participating in were: Band Day, at the University of Michigan; Homecoming at Alma College; march- ing at all of the football games, Christ- mas Band Concert, District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals, District and State Band Festivals, and the Spring Band Concert. Thirty-five band members attended the District Solo and Ensemble Fes- tival, and the results were as follows: eleven lsts, twenty-two 2nds , and four 3rds. At the State Solo and Ensemble Festival five received lsts and six re- ceived 2nds. A saxophone quintet was the first group in the school's history to receive a 1st division at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival. This year' s band was the first band in the school's history to receive a 1st division at the State Band Festival. After receiving a 1st division rating at the District Band Festival, we were eligible to play at the State Band Fes- tival at Muskegon on Saturday, April 14th. The band left Mayville on the afternoon of Friday the 13th, and spent the night at the Occidental Hotel in Muskegon. The next morning the busses took us to Froebel High School where we played at 8:45 A.M. The numbers we played were: The Golden Eagle March, by Walters; Overture in Classical Style, by Carter; and Prelude and Fugue in D Minor, by Bach. Between the trip with its new experi- ences, and the 1st division rating, we were a very tired but happy band when we reached home. The band is proud to represent May- ville High School, and we wish to thank everyone for their co-operation and support that enabled us to participate in so many activities. The future didn't look too promising, but with speedy Don Me Lane, tall Dale Clark and Dallas Bellamy, and high scoring Bob Robison and Ed Me Lane the season turned into a very satisfactory one. Even with our lack of experience we had many close games. At Deckerville, Mayville won by two points in a three-min- ute overtime. At Unionville, Chuck Ohmer popped in two free throws during the last minute of the game and Mayville won 53-51. Our team tied for 4th place in the league. We drew Milling- ton for the district tournaments and lost the first night by five points. Bob Robison was elected a member of the All-Star First Team of our league at the Conference Banquet. Leave it to young Bill Jackson to get himself into a terrible jam. But can you blame him for not correcting a wrong impression when fifty thousand dollars are at stake? You see . . . Bill is a Doctor of Philosophy and a college professor, which means he really can be called Doctor” all right. His fiance has a wealthy cranky uncle who likes medical doctors but is strongly prejudiced against professors. So when Angela brings Bill to meet Uncle Henry at the hospital, Uncle Henry thinks he is a surgeon . and no one corrects him because he promises to disgrace Terry, and she used only dishonest tactics to win. Just when it looks like Ursula is going to succeed Terry's Heart Beat does date her for Prom Night Most of the large cast is composed of high school kids who play themselves and talk in the idiam of today in the hilarious situations. PLAY to give Angela and Bill $50,000 for the first life Bill saves. And that really starts something . . for the regular hospital doctor has to leave town suddenly, and Bill is called upon to help in several humorous emergencies. Then, there are the anticsof the two hospital roommates. Dodson and Puckett, to keep things in a continuous up- roar. Gosh has it been that long? It seems like just yesterday. But of course we are getting older. It makes me feel ancient every time I pick up a paper and read such things as EDWARD McLANE, Jr. racks up 72 points in a recent basketball game, or turn on the color T.V. and see ANN McKENZIE R.N. demonstrate how SPROULE'S Little Liver Pills keep her brood of 13 thriving. Yes, I know what you mean. Did you hear about BETTY LOU SMITH performing that difficult brain operation on DOUGLAS STOUT'S famous race horse, Native Girl? No, I didn't even know he had a race horse, I thought he and JOE GUINN were making the National Guard their careers. Well, they were, until JOE surprised everyone by marrying and settling down on a ranch in Texas. And remember how SUE MAIERS always used to count calories? Well I guess she must have given up, because when 1 took the kids to see the circus last week, there she was, the main attraction as the fattest trapeze artist in the world. Her sons were in the act too. They had the reddest hair and the most freckles I've ever seen. I didn't get time to take the children as I've been busy getting ready for JEAN and Dick Loberg and all their kids who are coming from Minnesota for a two-week vacation. Oh, why don’t you have JEAN come to our Scrabble Club meeting next Tuesday? We meet at CHUCK1E Lumley's house this time. That's a good idea. I think we should take her on a tour of the city too. Mayville’s changed so since she lived here. We could show her the new ROBINSON Airport and maybe even wrangle a ride in a jet-ship from the new manager. HARRY BROWN. And afterwards we could all have dinner at WEILER'S Tearoom. Well. I guess that takes care of JEAN'S visit doesn't it? That'sall lean think of right now. The children just came home from school so good - bye for now. After we finished talking, I started to pre- pare dinner. I used one of the recipes Chef JIM WHITE had prepared on T.V. I ran out of milk and had to wait until nearly six o’clock until our milkman. DEFOREST IHRKE, arrived. The evening newspaper arrived with a thud against the back door, and after re- trieving it I settled down on the lounge to scan its contents. In the headlines was Professor RONALD COLLING'S name who had discovered a cure for Romantic Fever and named his discovery the Harmon X. As I read, 1 came across an article des- cribing the busy schedule of the parents of Siamese twins. After looking at the photo- graph better I saw it was an old classmate. ESTHER KINNEY. FRED GOHS’ name seemed to be dom- inating the society column. It seems he can't decide between the charming socialite. MINA SEDDON. or the great movie actress, SHIRLEY Corday, (formerly Colosky). In the want-ad section I saw an ad by PHIL PLAIN. She is now owner of a large beauty shop. Her assistant. CAROL BOOREN, just quit so she is looking for a new one. 1 glanced at the sports section and noticed that the Detroit Tigers were at last beginning to win. It must be due to the fine work of three ex-Mayville boys, TOM HAMILTON. DON DAVIDSON, and LEN LUCIK. Also in the headlines I read: CHARYN MARTIN,promoted to Assistant Secretary to JaneColbeck at Central Michigan College. They are now at the head of the homemaking department. Congress has appropriated money for Dr. MARY MOYER’S new hospital for the men- tally retarded. She certainly has accom- plished a lot in that field of work. In the local news I read where ROCHELLE O'BRIEN. DONNA GILMORE, and DORIS BABER, who are now secretaries at Bada's Pept-Bismal Plant in Chicago, spent their vacations together on the sandy beaches of Haw a ii And JEAN BALDWIN. VERNA GRIMSHAW, and JOANNE ALFA NO. all members of the Wacs, were spending a 30-day leave with their parents. Mrs. ANNA MAY Mead will make her debut as an opera singer at Carnegie Hall on July 27. Also in the society news, were the names of Mrs. JANET Pattullo. Mrs. EVELYN Robin- son, Mrs. MARILYN Bodeis, and Mrs. BAR- BARA Peters, who were visiting the home of Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Vroman in New York City. JEANETTE is a leading lady in the church societies. I noticed a picture of SANDRA KREGAR who after 20 years of nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital in Flint, has announced her engage- ment to Mr. Norman Hammond of Caro. After finishing the comics I sat back and thought to myself, How well I remember all of my classmates from the Senior Class of 1956. and the memories we shared. The above is entirely fictitious and any resemblance is purely coincidental. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We the SENIOR CLASS OF 1956. do hereby make and declare this our last will and testament. To our fondest JUNIORS we leave the thoughts of having to go through next year what we went through this year. To our fondest SOPHOMORES we leave our ability to earn money and have some left over.
