These lettermen were Donnie Maiers, Max Smith, and Roger Smith. Don and Max were regulars while Roger was a letter winner. With these boys forming the nucleus and with the rapid improvement of Russel Torrey, sophomore-Bob Robison, and junior-Ed- ward McLane, a successful season followed. Competing in the South Central Conference with Millington, Imlay City, Or- tonville, and North Branch; Mayville was picked to finish last as the other league teams had many veteran player s. Our Wildcats proved the surprise of the league as they battled to the very end and lost the conference championship by a heart- breaking 62-61 defeat to Imlay City. Speed, shooting ability and the desire to play were the strong points of this fine squad which included Lloyd McLane, James Schlattman, Jerry Hammond, Donald Davidson, Dallas Bellamy, and Don McLane in addition to the regulars mentioned above. Sophomore Bob Robison, the team's top scorer, was selected to the Con- ference All Star Team. Max Smith was selected by the squad as the teams most valuable player. Don Maiers, speedy guard, served as team captain. Max Smith, Don Maiers, and Russel Torrey were named on the all conference second team. Mayville won the Fair grove Invitational Tournament with Roger Smith, Rus- sel Torrey, and Bob Robison being all-tournament selections. Robison was also selected as the outstanding player of the tournament. All received medals for this recognition. Varsity letter winners were Don Maiers, Max Smith, Russel Torrey, Roger Smith, James Schlattman, Lloyd McLane, Robert Robison, and Edward McLane. Leonard Lumley, Tom Andison, and Dale Wingert served ably as athletic managers. DONKEY BASKETBALL Having trouble. Lennie? 39 Just resting. Ride em. cowboy! JUNIOR VARSITY ROW ONE: BOTTOM: G. Fox, D.
