We feel that our brilliant record and our unusual achievements will live after us, but, not wishing to take any chances, we suggest that a tablet, on which shall be inscribed our several names and a few of our most astounding deeds, be purchased and placed in the auditorium of the school in a position where it will strike the eye of all who enter. And in this manner do we dispose of our possessions: We give and bequeath, freely and without reservations or stipulations, to the Junior ciass, our rightful heirs, and to their heirs and assigns forever, our most important and valuable properties, our self- satisfaction, our importance, and our wisdom, all of which we possess in enormous quantities, and we hope said gifts will be of use in over coming their present inertia. We also leave the Junior class our good luck. It made us what we are today, and it should satisfy them. In addition to this, all our privileges and rights as Seniors in classroom will revert to them, as well as any notebooks, fountain pens, unfinished lollypops, or unfinished business, including debts contracted while engaged in the business of being a Senior. We give and bequeath to the Junior class our well-known nerve, which they will need next year, and all the examination questions we have been given during the past year. To our good friends, the Sophomore class, we leave our patience which will be found useful aa the only means by which they can endure the Juniors. To the young and unsophisticated Freshmen we leave a map of the school building, so that they will not get lost and roam about in everybody's way looking for their classrooms. We include with this map our little book entitled, How to Tell the Teachers, a pamphlet compiled by us after four years of arduous study. The legatees will notice this book is not what to tell the teachers but how. It contains specific information as to which teachers can be bluffed, which are easy and which are hard to please and those whom it is impossible to please. It will be noticed that, although we have left bequests to the Junior class, soon to be Seniors, to the Sophomores, soon to be Juniors, and to those who will, in the fall, become Freshmen, we have made no mention of the present Freshman class which will be known as the Sophomore class in a few months. We have left them nothing, because by that time their self-valuation will have attained such heights that nothing in our possession would be regarded by them as worthy their distinction. To our dear old school building itself, we leave the peaceful quiet caused by our absence and any apple cores, wads of gum, or crumpled notes we may have left about. To our teachers, the faculty of the Mayville High School, we hereby give, free from all inheritance, luxury, or Income tax, our entire store of knowledge. From them it came and to them it should be returned, that others may be benefited by it as we have been. ®e lack space for details, but shall simply state that our arguments against final exams, as well as those for bigger and better holidays, louder and funnier lectures, and no higher mathematics or school cafeteria, not to mention our shortened list of re- quirements for graduation, are of vital importance and should be familiar to every earnest student of education. We also give and bequeath to the teachers our very kindest regard and our sincere gratitude for their unfailing kindness and aid. To the history of the Mayville High School we bequeath our illustrious deeds and our names a3 candidates for the Hall of Fame. Beside these bequests, we leave our best wishes to any and all who may desire them. Finally, we do hereby name and appoint as the executors of this, our last will and testament, our class advisors, Mr. Gohs, and Mr. Brunet. In witness whereof we, the class of 1951, the testator, have set our hand and seal on this 31st day of May, in the year 1951. Freshman Class of 47-48 In September of 1947, we started out as freshmen In Mayville High School. We succeeded very well that year with Mr. Lamlman and Miss Woods as our class sponsors. The enrollment was 66, and abou t half of t.him are still here, having struggled through the last three years. The class officers for our freshman year were: President-Wlnifred Teets, Vice-President-Roy Sanford, Secretary-Treasurer-Gary Firestone. We were given an Initiation party by the Sophomores. We sponsored one party that year which was a wiener roast at'the grove. Sophomore Class of 48-49 In September of 1948, we began the school year as Sophomores, with an enrollment of ‘59. Our sponsor was Mr. Ketola and the class officers were: President-Roy Sanford, Vice-President-Tatty Van Wagnen, Secretary-Treasurer-Wayne Tompkins. Our party initiating the freshmen was a great success with all the freshmen participating in the fun. Junior Class of 49-50 We came back to school in September of 1949 as Juniors. There were 52 of us and Miss Wodds was our sponsor. Class officers were: President-Roy Sanford, Vlce-President-Doyle Ford, Secretary-Treasurer- Anita Eveland. That year we presented a very successful play, The Campbells are Coming, bn April 13, with Miss Woods as director. Other social events of the year were the Junior and Senior banquet at the high school , followed by the Junior and Senior Prom on the evening of May 12. Senior Class of 50-51 We started out last year at Mayville with an enrollment of 37. Our co-sponsors were Mr. Gohs and Mr. Brunet. Elected as class officers were: President-Bernard Fhelps, Vice-President-Roy Sanford, Secretary-Evonne Sherk, and Treasurer-Carl Lindsay. Our senior plcturt were taken in the first semester and received in time for Christmas. Our Senior play, The Boarding House Reach, was presented on Nov. 11, It was directed by Mr. Gohs and Mr. Brunet. In February we ordered oui invitations. We sponsored a roller-skating party at Caro on March 22. We start on our trip to Washington D.C. on April 29. We are looking forward to the banquet and prom which are to be held in May. Commencement is to be May 31, We are closing four happy years in Mayville High School by sponsoring this annual. cu p, ophecij o CO C i cn Lets look into the future about 10 years. It is now 1961, lets look around us and see what has become of all the Seniors from the class of 51. First off we see that JoAnn Bremer, has become a Home Ec teacher at no other place than Mayville High. Joyce Bacon is a top flight secretary to Dick Warmbler who has become a famous engineer. Carl Lindsay is head coach at Michigan State. Barney Phelps went in the army after graduating and really stuck to it, he is now a captain. June Hare, Patsy Hormel, and Clarice Leach are all employed as telephone operators. Audrey Hormel, Grace Longeuay and Evonne Sherk have all become successful nurses; Evonne and Audrey both married doctors and of course you all know who Grace is married to. Marion Clemons and Betty Hebberd have both made a career of marriage. We have two more teachers in our midst, Rena Mitchel and Marion Clark. Rena is teaching Kindergarden and Marion is teaching Art. By the way you remember Rena was married back in 51 . Pudge Sanford became a mason and is now working on a building in Detroit that i9 suppose to exceed the Empire State in height. We find another teacher Shirley York who Just recently gained a Master’s degree in Music. We now come to a group of farmers here we find Wilferd Tompkins, Don Sarles, Leroy Liskey, Ted Klimik, Armond Milner, and Hubert Terbush. I hear that Bill has Just received a prize for his fine cattle and that Hubert has been recognized as Farmer of the Year for his work in Soil Conservation. Winifred Teets became a model and is combining marriage and a career nicely. Ronald Graubner is living in upper Michigan where he is a game Warden. Doris Buhl was married shortly after she left school. I don't recall the fellows name right now. Are class really has had its share of military men. Don Dost is a navy man and commander of one of the Atomic Submarines. George Riley is a Captain in the Signal Corps. Doyle Ford and Marvin Rich are still both in the Air Corp. I understand that Doyle is a pilot and Marvin is a Navigator. Say, lets not forget about Dick Werner who is a radio man in the same Squadron. Jae Fox is working for the Ford Motor Car Company. It seems that he is busy designing motors for them. Patty Van Wagnen and Barbara Jenkins have an interior Decorating business in Detroit. I seem to remember that both of the girls were married not so long ago. Pat McSherry is now a Criminal Lawyer with a fine practice in Saginaw. Edwina Johnson taught school for several years but she is now married to a prosperious farmer. Fred Teeple is a very good carpenter and owns a wood working shop. From this little glimps into the future I think that things look very good for the Class of 51 . L. Gaborik B. Harris K. He cott E. Howay .n CM CM r. Secdo'n J. Stephens M. TerBush V. Titus V. Football History Of “‘ayville High School Football was first played as the Fall Sport of Mayville High School, September, 1948 as Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen were issued brand new Practice Football Equipment. °nder the Direction of Coach Lamiman, the boys were taught fundamentals to prepare them for competition the following year. In 1949,The Wildcats played four games of which they won 2 and lost 2. Prior to the opening of 1950 season many measures were taken to improve the facilities for football to a level equal if not better than that of rival schools. An Athletic field was purchased, graded and lighted; the amount of equipment was more than doubled; and an assistant coach was hired. The Wildcats entered competition in the Central Thumb League where they took 2nd place this year, runner up to Port Hustin.
