The Editors CLASS PROPHECY Hello everyone! This is the year I968, and I'm Mina, the flying carpet. A few weeks ago I had a very special job. I took two girls around the world to see their friends from the class of '58. As I landed in Mayville, Judy Hoffman came out of her ultra-modern home on Seitz Ave. She told me her home had been designed by the architect, Arnold Dobbert, with the able assistance of his interior dec- orator, Faye Kelm. We left the house and proceeded down the beautiful boulevard, built by the Fran- cis Schuster Const. Co., to pick up Dorothy Polster, who is married and quite a success- ful career woman in the field of atomic energy. Before leaving Mayville, we decided to visit the airport to help in giving Tom Bartelt a real welcome in recognition of his winning the prized Davis cup for the United States. His plane came in as scheduled, we were de- lightfully surprised to see that the pilot was Dick Krutke, and that the stewardess gra- ciously greeting the passengers was Beverly Schaefer. We left for Chicago and as we came in sight of the city, the girls asked me about the huge building that was on our left. Since I know everything, I could easily tell them that it was the new Quandt Hospital at which Bob Quandt was Chief of Staff. Bill Emmer and Harvey Simon, engineers, had constructed the building. Among the nurses on the staff there were: Patt Yaktus, Julia Antonion, Arlitt Wegener, and Betty Boettcher. One wing of the building con- tained the office of Don Schwartzmiller who just started practicing physchology. After landing our carpet in the center of the city, we met Sharon Bender, Carol Lauterbach, and Shirley Muche. They told us they were attending universal teachers' convention. Going on down the street we talked to Bonnie Giese and Shirley Walters who were traveling with their executive husbands. We next went to the World's Fair which was held in Chicago. The first dis- play we saw contained some of the biggest and best equipped trucks. We learned that one belonged to a company which was jointly owned by Jim Zangl and John Hoep ner. Next we came upon a man giving a speech about the modern conveniences on his farm. Judy was the first to recognize him as Darrell Hill. Waiting for him to finish, we also noticed Roger Breslow and Richard Seefeldt. They were about to start their talk about prize dairy cows. The mod- ern house display caught our attention . Everyone seemed to be admiring one house in particular. We were told that Peggy Ricklefs, with the assistance of Donna Seering, had designed it. Showing people through the houses was Jo Ann Helmer. Jo Ann Helmer is a professional guide. The next booth contained beautiful flower arrangements. The judges were just giving the blue ribbon prize as we entered. It was awarded to Donna Plansky who is now a florist. At the science exhibit where all sorts of inventions were on display, we talked CLASS PROPHECY to Dan Bloch and Howard Scheberl . They were displaying a iet-powered belt which acts as a parachute to the person wearing lt. My, what will they think of next! Out on the grounds, walking to the next booth, we met Karen Kaiser and Pat Hoffman. They told us they were private secretaries and that their bosses had given them the day off. Continuing on in our adventure, we came to a booth where Rosalie Metke and Darlene Muche were answering girls' questions about the WACS. They had been in the WACS for several years and were very enthusiastic about it. In the next booth were Wayne Del Ponte and Charles Feucht representing the Air Force and Louis Klueger and John Steger were there for the Navy. Walking on, we met Laura Marie Koep- sell and Delores Wild. While talking to them, we learned that they were bank cashiers. Before leaving the fair we decided to visit the food building. There we saw Charlotte Collien and Lucy Weiglein exhibiting elaborate cookies and candies. New York was next on our list. We checked into our hotel, the Waldorf Astoria, and found Dave Metke at the desk. He told us to be sure and plan to see the evening show which featured Delores Kuehl, Marilyn Pappenfuss, and LuAnn Giese, the Iron Ridge Butterfl ies. Through the crowd that evening, we caught a glimpse of Stan Reible and learned that he was attending a convention of horse- breeders in New York. We also found out that Stanley had the finest herd of horses anywhere in the world. While walking down Fifth Ave. the next day, we visited Judy Persha in her exclu- sive costume jewel ry shop. Judy designs her own merchandise. Our next stop was at an art studio. Here we talked to Doris Neitzel who was iust painting a winter scene advertisement for the Robertson, Pamperin, and Schabel ln- surance Agency of which Gary Robertson, Merle Pamperin, and Norbert Schabel are the directors. Doris fold us that Gloria Beck, Corrine Ruhland and Pat Clark were their private secretaries. Going on down the Avenue, we noticed various interesting places, but the one that really caught our attention was that of Gale Brown's Beauty Salon. We went in and while talking to Gale we learned that Rosie Strehmel was also in New York and that she was make-up director for the new Broadway musical which was being produced and directed by Larry Thompson. We decid- ed to go to the theater and visit Larry ahd Rosemary. They invited us to stay and watch rehearsal since Kathryn Whitney had the leading feminine role. Larry informed us that although Kathy had been acting only two years she was tops in her field. Our day was all too short, and when evening drew near, we decided to buy a newspaper and retire to our apartment for the evening. The headlines read AMBASS- ADOR TO GO TO ENGLAND FOR THE BIG FIVE MEETING. Reading on-- The president being ill, our most capable CLASS PRQPHECY ambassador, Wallace Pasbrig, is going to attend the meeting. A quality which everyone admires in Wallace is his thank- fulness and appreciation for all the work his secretary, Sandy Lohr, does. Sandy, he says, is my right hand. Upon waking the next morning, we decided to spend one more day in New York. We decided to visit the TIMES Newspaper Cffice--its being the largest in the world-- the new college, eat at the Conrad Hilton, and attend the show at Madison Square Gardens where the Globe Trotters were playing. At the TIMES Building, Marian Stein- bach, the editor, showed us around. One of the most interesting spots was the desk of Miss P. fPamelal Jones, the editor of the lovelorn column, better knows to us as Delores Kahlhamer. Some of the other people we knew were Adeine Belling and Ardis Schellpfeffer who were typing up a front page story which was announcing that Pauline Gohr had just accepted Lawrence Welk's offer to be his new champaigne lady. Our next stop was the new college designed by Carl Beauprey, Donald Behnke, and Donald Zastrow, world-renowned engi- neers. We were met at the school by the president of the college, Dr. Dave Bodden. We visited various rooms. In the modern, spacious gym, we found Ardis Schaumburg, the Phy. Ed. teacher, and in another room we found Bill Koch, an industrial arts teacher. Two other interesting people were Jean Steger, Dean of Women, and Karen Bachhuber R.N., the school nurse. After the tour we had dinner at the Conrad Hilton. We were invited to inspect the kitchens and meet the chief chef, Dave Sorgent. We ate our dinner with great relish and agreed that Dave was an excellent cook That evening, as planned, we went to Madison Square Gardens to see the Globe Trotters. Dave Herman, their star center, talked to us and invited us to a party at his home after the game. At the party we met James Drew, a world-known lawyer, and Margaret Gassner who is an orchestra leader. We didn't know it at the time, but Margaret's orchestra had played the National Anthem before the game. We also talked to Ronald Margelofsky who holds the national golf championship title. The next morning we were supposed to return to Mayville, but I decided I couldn't go, so the girls had to take a plane. At the Capital Airlines ticket office they saw Erma Sperger and Maxine Grenas. On the plane they met Verniece Schell- pfeffer who was all dressed in furs. Upon asking her what she had been doing she told them that she was a model, modeling for the before part of the before and after ads. With her was Barbara Heim, her business manager. Also on the plane were: Mary Ann Stommel and her husband, they were return- ing from their tour around the world. And so ended another exciting tour of our United States, leaving happy memories with the successful Class of '58. ni- ng ---A 'fmrznwl ' .55- i'4 rmilim r ld TUUIORQ if B PRESIDENT L.
