H. S. celebrated their fifth annual Homecoming. The Bulldogs, full of pep and spirit, strove for their sixth consecutive victory, but were halted by Ludlow's fighting determination. Although the half-time score proved discouraging, the half-time activities of the crowning of the new Homecom- ing queen provided immense excite- ment for the student body of M.H.S. Even though all the attendents were worthy of the title of Homecoming queen, Miss Jo Morton received the honor of being crowned Homecoming Queen of 1974. She was crowned by Miss Valerie Poe, Homecoming Queen of 1973. After the game M. H. S. alumni and student body were gra- ciously hosted with dance provided by the Student Council. Marla Toncray, Lisa Simms, Thelma Greene, Marla Rigdon, Jo Morton, Sharon Lawrence, Sally Sullivan, Judy Hamm, Joy Jones, Kim Frodge. 29 Senior Play On November 19, the Senior Class of '75 presented Winifred Wolfe's Ask Any Girl. The play was a delightful comedy in three acts. The plot evolved around Meg Wheeler, a small town girl who moves to New York. Meg finds romance and adventure in everything she does. Meg finds herself a job with Doughton and Doughton and supposedly falls in love with Evan, the youngest Doughton, but not for long. Meg finally realizes that she has been overwhelmed with Miles, the older Doughton. As it ends, Meg and Miles live happily ever after. The thirty Seniors who made up the cast, stage crew, and make-up applicators, gave three per- formances; one for junior high students, one for high school students, and one for the public. We would like to congratulate the Seniors on a job well done. The Seniors would like to give thanks and appreciation to Miss Mary Beth Helton, the director, for all the work she did to help and guide them to success. 31 5 e n o r T r p Bright and early April 12, 1975, sixteen seniors loaded a chartered Greyhound bus for a long trip to Washington, D.C.. After stopping in Charleston, W. Va. to try out the pinball machines, the group, with three sponsors, boarded the bus again with Roger, our bus driver. After arriving at the Charter House in Alexandria, Va., the group enjoyed a boring three-hour trip on the Potomac River. Sunday morning brought a beautiful sunshiny day and thirty-six aching feet from touring the Smithso- nian Institute and walking around National Zoologi- cal Park. Sunday night was free, those that had the energy went bowling. Monday, the gang went on an all-day tour of our capitol city, which included Ford's Theatre, the house where Lincoln died, and the Bureau of Engrav- ing and Printing, where they saw all that green stuff. Continuing the tour the gang went onward to Mt. Vernon, George Washington’s home. At Arlington National Cemetary, they witnessed the impressive changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Last but not least, they visited the Lincoln Memorial. After dinner the group went to the Wax Museum and then back to the motel for a free evening where all simply collapsed. Before leaving town Tuesday, we stopped at the White House and the Washington Monument. Coming home, the gang kept busy with poker games, talking, and even sleep! Arriving home late Tuesday night the seniors almost stumbled off the bus, but they were filled with memories of their visit.. David Case, son of Mr. and Mrs. Omar Case, wore the crown of King. First attendents to the royal pair were Teresa Turner and Ronnie Anderson. Football The M.H.S. football team posted an excel- lent winning record for the 1974 season. They closed the season with a record of 8 wins and 2 losses. Under the excellent training and super- vision of head coach John Thomas and assistant coaches Jim Jordon, Henry Boone and Jim Wil- kins, the Bulldogs final rating was 23rd in the state. The record was the best in the history of M.H.S. In a personal interview with head coach John Thomas, he was quoted as saying, One of the main reasons our team succeeded was because of the attitude of the players and the fine work the assistant coaches did in helping to train the team. A couple of players mentioned for their fine playing were Johnny Greene and Bart Rigg. Coach Thomas would like to give special recognition to the following Senior football players for their fine leadership while playing on the team: Kirby Bennett, Willie Walker, Jim Clevenger, Lance LeForge, Randy Mitchell and Dennis Lanthom. The student body of M. H. S. would like to congratulate the members of the M.H.S. Foot- ball team on their outstanding performances during the season. I The Maysville Baseball Team, coached by Marty Wall- ingford, was swinging fast and hitting hard this year. The team played many schools during the season. They ended with a record of 10 wins and 10 losses. During tournament play, the boys defeated Mason County by one run in the first game but lost to Bracken County in the second game. 86 Boys' Golf Left to right: 1st row: Clarke Smith, Mike Poe. 2nd row: David Case, Parker Grannis, Bill Goldsmith, Mike Breslin, Andy Combs, Matt Clift, Jeff Thomas, Don Stahl. The Maysville Boys’ Golf Team was swinging with power this year. The team consisted of two seniors, three sophomores, three freshmen, and one eighth grader. The mem- bers played 12 matches, winning four and losing eight. During the entire year, the team went up against 56 other schools, defeating 33 of the 56. Although no members made it to State competition, Gus Roberson, team coach, says the team has a bright future ahead. Since the team consisted of mainly young players, there will be time to build and shape a fine team for the next few years. It was a year of building, training, and gaining experi- ence for the Maysville Girls' Golf Team. Coached by Helen Smoot, the four member team worked diligently throughout the year, training for competition against various schools. In the Regional Tour- nament the team placed 4th in competition. Two members of the team, Theresa and Vicki Dunbar, won the right to compete in State Tourna- ment. 89 Girls' Golf Intramurals Bowling Maysville had 3 bowling teams this year, each consisting of three players. Two of the teams were made up of boys, while the third was an all girls' team. Members practiced diligently every Thursday preparing for the mid- season and end of season tournaments. During tournament play Lisa Lesley proved to be the outstanding player. Lisa placed 2nd in the mid-season tournament and first in the end of sea- son tournament. Front row: Sherrie Gardner.
