As the Senior Claes of May’s Lick High School graduates In May, preparing to take their pieces in life, I find myself thinking with a great deal of pride that I have had the privilege of associating with such a fine group of people and have in my own small way helped to guide them through their lest year of high school. The world challenges you to a degree of workmanship that will make you a useful member of society. It also challenges you at the same time to scculr-e enough general knowledge so that you will be able to live unde tandl ngly and with sympathy as you view what is going on around you. You seniors cannot rest on the heritage which has been handed down to you. History was being made and written in the days of Colonial America Just as truly as history is being made in the present hours. It is your big opportunity as young Americans to be useful members of society. Let us look forward, take up the challenge of life and not only make it better for yourselves but make it a better life for the people who in other generations will follow. In other words let us be a bridge builder. Let us realize now what the old man who had lived his full life and ready to pass on realized in W. A. Drongrole's, Bridge Builder. An old man, going a lone highway, Came, at the evening cold and gray, To a chasm deep and wide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim, For the sullen stream had no fear for him. But he turned when safe on the other side And built a bridge to span the tide. Old man, said a fellow pilgrim near, You are wasting your strength with building here; Your Journey will end with the ending day, You never again will pass this way. You've crossed the chasm deep and wide, Why build this bridge at evening tide? The builder lifted his old gray head; Good friend, in the Path I have come, he said, There followed, after me today A youth whose feet must oass this way. This chasm that has been as naught to me, To that fair haired youth may a oitfall be; He, too, must cross in the twilight dim; Good friend. 11m building this bridge for him. So r« vou cross the chasm of life which Is very deep and very wide, be a bridge builder for those in future generations. The faculty Joins me in congratulating you Seniors on the w0rk you have accomplished here at the May's Lick High School and we stand in unison wishing you the best in life. Good Luck!
