Mayslick, Sardi :, and Lewisburg. Four members. Lillie Purcell, Charles Poe, Gene Tay- lor and Julia Comer have come to Mayslick school all twelve years. Nellie Doyle joined the class in the sec- ond grade and has been with us eleven years. Billy Kachler came from Ewing and Leona Hatfield and Harry Maddox came from Maysville to join ouv class in the fifth grade. Clara Shepherd came from Germantown to enroll in our sixth grade. Nelson Clark from Lewisburg, entered the seventh grade. Wayne Poe left Sardis to join the class in the eighth grade. Six students, Lois Wallingford, Wanda Gifford, Katherine Gallagher, Logan Wallingford, Gene Wheel- er. and Donald Craycraft graduated from Sardis Junior High School and became members of our ninth grade. Nine graduadtes of Washington Junior High enrolled in our class in the tenth grade. They are Anne Hord. Oeneva Hamilton. Betty Barbee, Katie Tolle, Naomi Throckmort n, Marie Ellis, Virginia Rigg, Bobby Mc- Dowell and Millard Craycraft. Also joining our tenth grade were Jean Buchanan from Sadieville, Betty Burke from Flemingsburg and Jimmy Chain from Lewisburg. Frances Mitchell was the last to join our class. She came from Flemingsburg in the eleventh grade. Our class is the largest to be graduated in the past seven years. SENIOR SOLILOQUIES Lives of Seniors all remind you. May 30. 1950 Having decided to enter other fields of leisure we will offer for sale to the highest bidder on the prem- ises of Mayslick school, the following personal and real property: 1. Thirty antique study hall desks with genuine hand carving in original designs. Fine examples of Creative Art. 2. Thirty sets of Senior Textbooks, all autographed and all guaranteed to be in very bad condition. 3. Our record as the largest and best class of the past seven years. Interested parties will be instructed as to how we accomplished this feat. 4. One complete set of “High School Teachers” consisting of eight animated volumes nicely bound in sheepskin and stamped with A. B’s. and M. A’s. These editions cover all High School subjects and should be a useful source of information to the purchaser. 5. At the same time we will offer the following real estate: 6. Barbara Carpenter with the hair that curls. Makes better grades than the other girls. John Alexander manages the team. With basketball equipment, he’s right on the beam. Reba Cobb is our class blonde. Of teasing others she’s very fond. ' 'hen a red head comes bobbin’ down the floor. Watch out! Paul Collins is going to score. Who’s that dreaming with eyes of blue? Oh! that’s Sue Gifford breezing through! Ivan Cracraft is famous for questions His bright remarks and good suggestions. Mary Leslie Hitt is the beauty of our class. Brown hair, blue eyes, and pretty gay lass. Kenneth Follmer keeps all the girls in a spin. Little Anne Hord sure has fallen for him. Dorthy Hodge has a brilliant mind, Serious and polite as any you’d find. A nice personality has Wilma Lyons. She has a smile worth two gold mines. Clinton Gallagher is always ready, Willing to try with a nerve that’s steady. Barbara McDowell is our most popular girl Gay and happy, always in a whirl. Some hate snow, some hate lemon But Wilbur Gulley says he hates the women. Bonnie Poe is our boogie woogie gal. Singing, dancing, and Mary Leslie’s pal. Basketball through the hoop, lickety split Why look at that number, it’s Billy Hitt. Mariola Rice faithful to the end Is always planning a way to be a friend. A boy who seems very shy and quiet. Gordon Throckmorton is strictly alright. SOPHOMORE SILLYISMS The Sophomore Class is quite a crowd. And of each member, we are all very proud. We do our work and then we play; We come to school most every day. If you will read this little rhyme Then you will note from time to time. All of you will agree with us While we stir up some Sophomore fuss. Ivan Sanders. They call him “Preacher”. And is he a worry to the teacher. A little advice. Stella, go on and choose. For either Billy or Jackie you’re sure to lose. James Cropper is our farmer lad. He always sticks close to dear old Dad. Five-foot-two—with golden hair, Charlie and Ruth make a darling pair. Allan Wilson is a basketball star. In athletics he’ll surely go far. Douglas Wilson is a very nice chap. The Sophomore crowd calls him “Jap.’ Carrie McKee with the glamorous hair. Hers is a future both rosy and rare. Grace Parker is the quiet type. But one thing sure, she’ll never gripe. Jimmy Jones (his nickname is Hoppie,) And in Business Arithmetic he loves to copy. Betty Catron is jolly and gay She makes lots of friends with that winning way. Duane Tuel is a fine musician, they say. He’ll be a great vocalist some day. Now. George Campbell never has much to say. But he’s a pretty good sport, anyway. Jesse Hord is the shortest of the boys. Though small in size, he’s big in noise. Thelma Mason is free from care. When you need a friend, she’s always there. Barbara Combess is a lot of fun. She makes friends with everyone. Elizabeth loves to wear that Tollesboro sweater. It keeps her warm in all kinds of weather. Bill Ricketts is very shy. But he’ll start talking by and by. Marcella and Mardella are our problem twins, when they fight over their pictures. Mardella wins. Bobby Ross is a bit bashful it may seem. But the Robertson girls think he is a dream. A tiny little fellow this Stanley Moran. But he is growing up to become a man. Betty Cropper is a girl we all know. She’s got her cap set for Charles Poe. Jo Ann Henson, a good pupil in our class. Can’t understand wfhy some don’t pass. Billy Catron happy and full of glee. If there is a girl for him to see. Always for Sardis. Alice Doyle is bound. Especially when those Mt. Olivet boys are around. If you want things done, call Mary Ann. She’ll always do the best she can. Poor Sandra’s got men on the brain. And does she like that dear old Wayne. When Wanda left us. it was a great loss. We offer best wishes to the new Mrs. Ross. We’re sorry Orpha Hatfield has moved away. But we hope at Orangeburg she will have a pleasan: stay. Cene and John go round in a whirl, Both are sweet on Connie, a blue-eyed girl. nother member of our class is Betty Lou. The has glossy, black hair and eyes of blue. And last, but not least, is Miss Brannon, our teacher. She’s quite aloof, but a very nice creature. And now that you’ve met every lad and lass v hat do you think of the SOPHOMORE CLASS? FRESHMAN FANCIES All of us Freshmen in September ’49 Started out to school feeling just fine. It didn’t take us long to find that though sad. it’s true If we stayed in High School some work we must do. e started in to Algebra and English, too. Sometimes we wondered if we’d ever come through. But it hasn’t all been drudgery, you see That we’ve had plenty of fun wre’ll all agree. As second team cheer leaders, we have numbers three And they’re kept as busy as busy can be. They are Joyce. Delores, and Wanda Roberson. It’s been hard work, but it’s still been fun. Far basketball Nathan Butler goes out And for him all of the Freshmen shout. As officers we have five this year That they do their duty, we never fear. Our president is Joyce Paynter, and we think’s she’s very good. While the vice president is Melvin Caywood Buddy and Wanda are secretary and reporter They also help to keep everything in order. Eva. Doris. Barbara. Joyce. Rosanne, Wanda. Delores. Clara, and Norma are the girls in our class. Nathan. Stanley. Harry. Willard. Hank. Buddy and Melvin are the boys—hear that crash. Officers Coach Charles V BASKETBALL The May's Lick Cardinals' Varsity team is composed of Wayne Poe, Gene Taylor, Paul Collins, Logan Wallingford, and Bobby McDowell. The Cardinals were runners- up in the LRVC held in Flem- ingsburg. The lads coached by Charles Harris defeated Tol- lesboro 5 to Li in the open- ing round. Minerva was downed in the semi-finals by 5 0 to 39 Sharpsburg nosed out the Car- dinals in a thriller 51 to lj.8 in the finals. The record at the conclusion of the tourna- ment is 8 won and 8 lost.
