After a few days our timidity began to wear off, and under the supervision of our home - room teacher, Mr. J. C. Atkinson, we began to feel more at ease in our surroundings. lt seemed that before we knew it, we were Sophomores, feeling very important. At the beginning of our second year in high school we were able to participate in more clubs and sports. Our home-room teacher that year was Mrs. Webster, and it was that year we ordered our class rings. Everyone was greatly excited over them. We began our Junior year under the direction of Miss Gladys Moore. During this important year we sponsored a Halloween Carnival to raise money for the Junior-Senior banquet. The banquet was held at the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Winston-Salem on Saturday, April l0. All the students and guests had a delightful time. A little later everyone in our class was thrilled when we received our class rings. As we begin our last year of high school, only seventeen seniors are left to graduate. With the leadership of our home-room teacher, Miss Dosier, we are in the process of publishing the school annual. All too soon the time for graduation is drawing near, with the door of opportunity opened wide to each senior as he goes out into an unknown future. I I S PF' ,,. CLASS PROPHECY Who was it that said there were no signs of success in the hearts and minds of the Senior Class of 'W of good ole Mayodan High ? Was it you? Ah, yes, no doubt. But do you know ....... . . . . That Anita Atwood has applied her experience as a part-time waitress in one of the cafes in Mayodan, to a very fulfilling purpose? She is now sole owner of the famous A 8. A Restaurant chain which reaches from Maine to California. , . . . That James Case is the proprietor of Mayodan's only Sporting Goods Shop? It seems that his own Iittle base- ball team is keeping him almost broke, though, for every time they break a bat or lose a glove they iust yell, Daddyl ... That Mickey Connelly is now a second Choo Choo Justice? He has made professional football his career. The people of Mayodan are very proud of him, and they surely have reason to be. ... That Betty Ann Good is the only Iady forest ranger east of the Rockies? lncidentally, she is still wearing that diamond, waiting for her boy friend to get out of the army. Betty says that he has only ten more years. . . . That Roy Holcomb is now a model for the famous Arrow Shirt Company? Also, in T966 he was voted America's Best Dressed Man . Sometimes I wonder if he doesn't get all of his shirts at a discount, though. ... That Donnie Hopkins has set up a manicurist's parlor on Hollywood and Vine? All the movie stars go there to get their toe-nails trimmed, so I heard. . . . That the former Deanna Martin has gone into business with her husband after nine years of being just an aver- age housewife? Go to Dodson Interior Decorators, Inc. for the Best in Interior Decorating. IThisad is paid forj . .. That Gaynell Martin is the full-fledged manager of Mother's Little Helper Robot Company? She has made herself quite well-known in the business world. Infact, she is so well-known that her husband now stays at home and keeps house while Gaynell does the bread-winning for her family. . .. ThatGary Middleton has made the Air Force his career? He also has built himself quite a reputation for being an expert on the subject of Germany , as you probably saw last month on the television program. The sponsor has recently gone bankrupt! . . . That Michael McMillan has won world-renown as The Speed Demon? For the past four years he has had the Indianapolis Speedway in the palm of his hand. He is presently touring the country giving lectures on Safe Driv- Ing.n . . . That Leroy Myers has now broken all professional golf records and is seriously considering running for president in the next election? He is a solid Democrat. Vote for Myers for President. IThis is a paid political ad.l .. . That Donald Strickland is Mayodan's only postman? His mail route covers T7 miles IMayodan has grown con- siderablyl and he walks it every day. His present weight is l02, believe it or not. ... That Jerome Tuttle is still giving trampoline lessons to the younger set at the Y.M.C.A. ? He is due for a promotion soon, somebody please warn the soda fountain. . . . That Wayne Tuggle has blacked his face and is now playing center with the famous Harlem Globe-Trotters Bas- ketball team? . . . That BettyJune Woods is the head dietitian at the Y.M.C.A. ? She is saving to go to college. At the rate she is going, maybe she will be able to enter by 1980. Well, better late than never! . . . That Javan Royal has put his dancing ability to good use? The last I heard, he and Arthur Murray were having a little fued because Javan keeps stealing Arthur's dance students. ... That Gerry Williams has his own television program, The Outdoorsman? He is an ardent 'coon hunter and skins rabbits for his hobby. In his leisure hours he looks after his mink ranch. . .. That I am Chief-Editor of the Mayodan Times, and in my spare time I keep house, take care of my twins, and give advice to the lovelom. Experience Speaks. . . . . . .And as I look back through these' past ten years, I marvel at the success and happiness that seems to cling to the Senior Class of 1957.
