Our next two years down stairs were guided by our four other line teachers. The fourth year was something new and exciting to us because it was our nrst year on the second floor. The next big year was when we were all finally together in the eighth grade with our teacher, Mrs. Maude Lemons. It was then that we went to Raleigh with the high school to see President Truman. After our graduation from grammar school, we felt exceedingly important because we had big plans for our last four years in high school. We got off with a very good start with Miss Gladys Joyce as our ninth grade teacher. Again, in the tenth grade, we were forunate to have Miss Joyce. This was a very importnt year to us because we could now order our long-wanted class rings. Our junior year was also a busy and important one to remember. ln the fall we planned the Halloween Carnival, which was a big successg and with the money earned, we made plans for the junior-Senior Banquet, which was held at the Plantation Supper Club in Greensboro. We had so much success with the banquet that people commented that this was the best one ever to be given there. All this was clue to the fine coopera- tion of the class and our adviser, Mr. B. L. King. Our last year in Mayodan High School has been the most important to us. With the fine advice and guidance of Miss Winifred Dosier, we have published this year book, and we are loking forward to wearing our caps and gowns, and graduating in May. MARILYN CREECH. IO 53 CLASS PROPHECY Promptly at one oclock on june tenth, nineteen hundred and fifty-three, the space ship left the earth, carrying us on the lirst experimental trip to the moon. Because of miscalculations we missed the moon by a few thousand feet and sailed OII II'lI'U SPICE' At about tive oclo-.k we landed on a planet which proved to correspond to our earth in every way. 'Ihe cities, countries, continents, seas, and people were exactly as on the earth, except that the new planet was ten years ahead of the earth in development. Landing on a spot which looked exactly like Baileys airport, we walked down the ro cl unrl xy tame io .1 lily, which, although muth larger, we found to be Mayodan, As ix e passed the Nvashington Mills. which extended a tnile or so along the highe way. I saw a hill hoard advertising the playing of 'I'he Funniest Show on Earth at the lvliyo Theater. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the stars were jimmy Reddick and Perry Tucker. Later I learned that they had become two of Broadways funniest comedians. I could hardly wait to see Jimmy and Perry, so I left tny companions and hurried to the theater. Perry thought me to he the Annette Price of his planet and wanted to know if I had found the fountain of youth. I explained the he-st I could who I was and why I was there. Iimmy, although filled with amazement, managed to tell me what all of the class of '55 were doing. I-Ie told me that Daniel Smith is now supervisor of North Carolinas roads, and changed a great deal since the Good UI' Days when he used to drive his 'IM' model down those same roads. Carl Veachs good looks has won him the nation-wide honor of posing for Arrow shirts Marilyn Creech is now touring the country, giving concerts on the steam piano Whtu do you think is her business manager? Wliy, none other than Steve james! lfva 'Iran Atkins. ifter finishing a nurses course at City Hospital in Winsttmn-Salem. has opened a new hospital in Possum town. Willie Fay Martin. the former Willie Fay Wfoods, has settled down to a quiet home life. Emily Joyce is now demonstrating how to drive a car and entertain ones beau at the satne time. Sara Joyce has become an artist that would put Raphael to shame. I-Ier masterpiece is a self portrait, made when she was May Queen, Billy Watkins, having such a manly figure, is now modeling underwear for Mayo Mills. ll You remember that quiet, sort-spoken Nelda vloytef She is now in the movies and is known as the setond -Iudy Canova. You remember how Paul Duggins loved to chew gum in tlass! Now. he is working in W'rigley's Chewing Gum Factory where he can get all he wants. Geraldine and Haroldine Perdue are now posing for 'xXfhich Twin Tas the 'lionif' Loretta Ledbetter, better known as Nl-leadf has been voted the best lady barber in Tasmania. Dixie Dunovant, after live years of inodeling, has finally .innouneed her coming marriage-to whom? You guessed it. Kit. Howard Casey Case has just emerged from the Olympit Meet with the title ol 'The Cinder Path Marvelf Glenda Lawson, Molly Tulloek, and -lane Wfray have started the movie extras who .ire almost as good as the Andrew Sisters. Maxine Duggins is running a hufjkstei' wagon. Her uneanny ability to yell her wares is bringing her an enormous business. Ola Mae Throckmorton is selling penny post cards at the souvenir eounter of the Atlantic City of Mayodan4Mayo Park Patty Tuttle now has the distinction of being the thampion 'l'itldltA-de-Winks player of the Mayodan At this time my tompanions reappeared, saying that they were ready to return to the earth. I thanked jimmy, and then we left, ready to give the news of our startling discovery to the world, but .is l pondered l hoped that Ort in the stilly night Ere slumbers chain had bound me, Fond memory would bring the light Of other days around me , I2 CLASS WILL We, the Senior Class of Mayodun High School, being reasonably sound of mind, in the year nineteen hundred fifty-three, on the thirtieth day of May, do declare this writing to be our last will and testament, hereby making void all other testimonial writing or writings heretofore made lpyllus.
