Every human being desires the order- liness that makes him sure that when he wants to use one of his possessions he can putout his hand and takeit or use it. It is just as true about the orderliness of other things. It is part of his sense of security. ' If one would stop to think, one would realize that it was because of 'someone's ideals that the possibility of having just such orderliness ex1sts.For orderliness suggest method, and method suggest planning, and planning suggest ideals. We thus find that ideals--someone's ideals--furnish the pat- tern from which the comforts and the finer things of lige take shape. For it must not be assumed that orderliness with regard to material possessions, great as we feel it, is alone under consideration here. The same ideals that make one secure in one's material possessions and comforts are patterns that give shape to the long list of rights, both civil and rellf gious, man is heir to. The orderliness that permeates every phase of life is the outgrowth of 1deals.For ideals are not, as some view them, evanescent dreams. 'They are forces that find fruition in deeds. They become absorbed into the life of an individual and give that life a direction, a consis- tency, and a continuity. They do not die, but live on and on even after their owner is dust. . , wr: Somewhere along the highway of the dim past, someone had an ideal. He worked on it and spoke of it often, for it was dearer far than his life. At length the man fell on sleep? but people were impressed, and his ideals found lodgment in many a heart. His body went back to dust, but the man became immortal in the ideals he passed on to his followers. In some such way your Pr1ncipal,your teachers, your fel- low-students, your school--all are candidates for an immor- tality that shall come from ideals they fostered andyou took up and lived and that others after you in turn lived, and still others on and on. For ideals are not only life in its best essentials, but a sort of eternal life as well. -.A NAR f1'r r 'A X ' P J. G. Wootton Commercial :rn-.. 'Pi JUN Miss Pat Padgett Spanish, Civics U. S. Many times We've been discouraged Though it seemed we couldn't make the grade But our teachers were behind us So we weren't too much afraid. Various trials have beset us But everything came out all right We've made friends, had lots of fun Especially banquet night. We hate to leave Ole Mayodan High Its like a second Home So we hope you want forget us ' No matter where we roam. Much happiness we've had together And our school work is almost done we will always love each other Until the victory is won. As all things must come to an end Our friendship, love, and work must not fall But strive for better lives and homes to win And make life worth while after all. Though now we bid a fond farewell To pals and teachers today We're sure that we will meet again Upon l1fe's broad highway. Basketball practice was begun this season by.a small but determined group of girls. Coached by Miss Padgett, the team won their first game. In spite of their zeal and spirit, they saw but two more victories during the season. The sportsmanship of the team, the privilege of playing more experienced teams, and the ability to play together as a group are invaluable gains. The fighting spirit of the team leads one to believe that next year's team will accept the challenge and win or lose with the same grace and good will as this year's team. Viola Case, the only veteran player, was high scorer. The team improved a great deal during the season. An rpgqpk In 4, , 4 ,, ! - I I I I -- --,g'a1,ll.,--f.f:-Il :-,, '.a.,,f-m-,mf ul. az. Playing hard and fast with a do-or-die spirit, the team gave its opponents a good f1ght.In spite of their concen- trated effort, however, the victories were few. In the Journal-Sentinel Tournament, the'boys won their first game by defeating Linwood High. In the game with Scott High they were not so successful. Mr. Goodman, the coach, expressed a belief that since most of next year's team will be experienced players, the boys will be tougher opponents for the other county teams. Donny Montgomery was the best all-round player giving unfailingly his support to the team. Ralph Anderson played with purpose and determination and should be commended for it The team improved during the season. fm. 4' ,,,k.,,,-,,,A2,.,-,,,,f,,qL..,,.1..
