Our School Marshals are selected on the basis of Scholastic Average. The School Marshals are the top ten Juniors with the highest scholastic average from the 9th through the 11th grades and are carried into the 12th grade. FIRST HONOR — HATTIE MAE TONEY Hattie is involved in many activities here at Mayo. She is a member of the B.A. Gary Chapter of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Drama Club, Science Club, SAE, Teen Spirit, French Club, Future Business Leaders of America and she is the Official book keeper for both the boys and girls basketball teams. Hattie has held positions in many other organizations. She has been a member of the Softball Team, Cheerleading squad and Bear- ettes Club. Hattie is our reigning Miss Block ‘M”. Hattie’s future plans are to attend Howard University in Washington, DC to major in Computer Science. SECOND HONOR — DANIEL KOSIN Daniel is also a very active member of the Mayo High School Student Body. Among the many offices he has held, he is the present Student Body President. He is a member of the B.A. Gary Chapter of the National Honor Society, the Student Council, the National Beta Club, the Spanish Club, the Newsquiz Team, and he is a Bus Driver. Daniel’s future plans are to attend the Naval Academy and become a pilot. 72 THIRD HONOR — BARRY LEE CANNON Barry is a very athletic and intelligent young man. Among his many abilities. Barry is an excellent leader. Barry is the President of the Senior Class, and is also the president of the Block “M’’s and the B.A. Gary Chapter of the National Honor Society. Barry is Captain of the Golden Bears Football Team and he is Captain of the Newsquiz Team. Barry is a Bus Driver, a Student Aide and he is a member of the National Beta Club. Barry’s Future Goals are to attend Furman University in Greenville. South Caroline to major in Computer Science. FOURTH HONOR — KEVIN N. BROWN Kevin, our Mr. Senior, is also a very intelligent and athle- tic young man. Linda’s future plans are to attend Georgia State University to major in Fashion Illustration. SIXTH HONOR — RHONDA ELISE EDWARDS Rhonda, our “Miss Homecoming”, is a very active and outstanding student. She holds member- ship in the Drama Club, the B.A. Gary Chapter of the National Honor Society, the Teen Spirit, the Science Club, the French Club and she is a Bus Driver. Rhonda’s future plans are to attend Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama to major in Registered Nursing. SEVENTH HONOR — WALTER LIRE, III Walter, better known to many as ‘Skip’, is a very active member of the Mayo High student body. Skip is the Vice-President of the Senior Class. Skip holds membership in the Teen Spirit, the National Beta Club, the Annual Staff and he is a Bus Driver. Skip’s future plans are to attend South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, South Carolina to major in Computer Science. NINTH HONOR — MARTHA WRIGHT Martha, our “Miss Mayo,” is an intellectual and active student. She is the President of the Teen Spirit and Trea- surer of the Senior Class. Martha is also a member of the Spanish Club, the National Honor Society and the Drama Club. Martha’s future plans are to attend Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina and major in Special Educa- tion. EIGHTH HONOR — MURRAY GREGG Murray is a very active and intelligent young lady. She is a member of the B.A. Gary Chapter of the National Honor Society and the Drama Club. She is the reigning Miss Junior Marshal. Murray is planning to attend Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina to major in Early Childhood Development I TENTH HONOR — TERRI PATRICE ELLIOTT Terri is a very active young lady. She is a Cheerleader. Terri holds membership in the Student Council, the Drama Club, the B.A. Gary Chapter of the National Honor Society, the Future Homemakers of America, the Teen Spirit and the Annual Staff where she serves as Academic Editor. Karen has done outstanding work as the Editor-In- Chief and Associate Editor of the Annual Staff. She has also served as Junior Class Secretary, Senior Class Secretary, President of the Drama Club, Miss Annual Staff, Homeroom Reporter on the Newspaper Staff, and a Student Council Representative. Karen is a student aide, and she also holds membership in the following clubs: Student Council, Annual Staff, Photography Club, Choir, Teen Spirit, Bearettes, Drama Club, Science Club, and FBLA. Karen also worked as an Office Aide. Karen’s future plans are to attend S.C. State College and major in Guidance Counseling. Sandra Jeffrey is the daughter of Mr. Mrs. Darvia Jeffrey. Sandra has reigned as Miss FFA, Miss Junior, Miss Senior, and she was chosen as 1st Runner Up to Miss Mayo. She is currently the Vice-President of the Spanish Club, and she has won an award for typing. Sandra, familiarly known as “Sam” by her friends holds a membership in the following clubs: Spanish Club, Teen Spirit, Photography Club, Choir, FBLA, Drama Club, and she has also worked as an Office Aide. Daniel Green, the son of Mr. Mrs. Clyde Green has displayed outstanding ability on the Football Field. Daniel is one of the Captains of the 1982 Football Team, has been named as Player-Of-The-Week six times for Football, and has been the recipient of the Bears Den Award. Daniel is a member of the FFA, Block “M”, Track Team, and Football Team. Cheryl Sutton is the daughter of Mr. Roland Sutton and Mrs. Linda Moser. Cheryl has been the recipient of the following awards: Newspaper Staff Award (outstanding services on the Mayoite), Outstanding Leadership Award in ROTC, and Mathematics Award from the National Achievement Academy. Lisa is a member of the Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and is an Officer in ROTC. Lisa’s future plans are to attend Clemson University and major in Architecture. Ralph Mack is the son of Mr. Mrs. Cooley Mack Jr. Ralph was named as Player-of-the-Week for JV Basketball and Defense Player-of-the-Week for JV Basketball. He also won the Moses Charles Award. Ralph is a member of the FFA, Block “M”, Track Team, Basketball Team, Baseball Team, and wore Jersey No. 23 on the Football Team. Darren Robinson is the son of Mr. Mrs. Albert Robinson. Darren was elected as player-of-the-week for Football several times. Darren is a member of the Drama club, Vice-President of the FFA, Chaplin of the Senior Class, and a member of the Football team. Renee Goodson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt Goodson. Renee serves as the President of the Spanish Club this year, she is the Supporting Editor for the 1983 Annual, and she has also won awards for Typing and Spanish. Beauty is quite an asset to Renee and she has reigned as Miss Freshman, Miss Annual Staff, 2nd runner up to Miss Mayo, 1st runner up to Miss Homecoming, and is now Miss Honor Society 4 WHO’S WHO AT MAYO HIGH SCHOOL Janice Marie Baker is the Daughter of Mrs. Mae Francis Baker. Janice has reigned as Miss Science Club, and has also been a Student Council Representative. She is a member of the Teen Spirit, Science Club, Drama Club, Choir, Photography Club, and Annual Staff. Alonza Dargan is the son of Miss Denise Dargan. Alonza, better known as “Kicky” around Mayo’s Campus has participated in Boys State at the Citadel during the summer of 1982. He also reigned as Mr. Freshman and is the current Secretary of the Block “M”. “Kicky is a member of the Block M , Drama C lub, Annual Staff, Varsity Basketball Team, and was a statistician for the Football Team. “Kicky” Also helps out Mr. Renny Johnson during the 1st Period as a Teachers Aide. Robert Wilds is the son of Mr. Mrs. Robert Lee Wilds. Robert is a member of the Block “M”, FFA, Track Team, and Football Team. He reigned as Mr. Junior also, last year. Tammie Washington is the daughter of Mrs. Willie Mae Washington. Tammie is the Captain of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad, the Secretary of the Bearettes, an officer in ROTC, and Drillteam Commander. Tammie has received an Economics Award, and the award for the Highest Academic Achievement in ROTC III. It was very hard work, but, through patience and teamwork, the task was achieved.
