It is in knowing that God’s works are always righteous that we rejoice in the parting of our loved one. The Mayo Senior Class finds solace in the remembrance of the wonders of His ways. We marvel at the idea that God has added one more angel to his starry throne. 20 Mrs. John Alsbrooks Mr. Renny Johnson Mrs. Dorothy Wearring Mrs. Thcola Wilson Senior Class Advisors OJJicers left to right: Melvin Simon - Chaplain. If this is going to be our stopping point, we have worked for nothing, because this is only the beginning. The memories of the class of 1971 are captured in this book, for never again will we be pictured as part of the student body. To the faculty and my classmates, I thank you for having been a part of our being the great Mayoites we’ve tried to be. For those students who will be pictured in Golden Bear Editions to come, treasure your last one especially, because it will be the most important copy of all. My special thanks to the yearbook advis- ors for the time and patience you have taken in helping us to make this edition possible. Best wishes to the members of the next annual staff, may you have a successful and enjoyable publication. The 1970 Football season brought a lot of changes, to the program at Mayo. It was the first year that all the schools in the state of South Carolina played under a unified system. Our season was a disappointing one in that we didn’t win our conference championship, although we had the chance. The Highlight of our season was the fact that we were number one for five weeks. We are very proud of our showing, and for our efforts we will be rewarded with runnerup trophy. Next year’s goal, the championship!! ALL CONFERENCE SELECTIONS 70 Coach T. Greene, A. Edwards, A. This year, for the first time in 16 years, we defeated our archrival, Butler of Hartsville in Hartsville by a score of 12-6. This season produced many stars, and to the seniors who have played the last year for Mayo, we thank you for an ex- citing, if not the best season at Mayo. Yeah, they got us. 86 VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM Dimitri Campbell, Julius Daniels, David Black, Gregory Arceneaux, Louis Wingate, Randy Jackson, Luther Williamson, Colon Abraham, Johnny Flynn, Michael Blackmon, Michael Parrott, Carmegys Murray, Spurgeon Dubose, Melvin Simon, Keith Dabreu.
