WAVM 91.7 FM — Cable Channel 61 Under the direction of Senior General Managers Geraldine Mannion and Tricia McDonough, the 1988-1989 broadcast year at WAVM 91.7 FM and Cable channel 61 was a tremendous success. The entirely student run operation had one of its most exciting and prosperous years ever. The year started off with a bang with tons of radio specials and all the local sports highlights shown on channel 61 . The 8th annual 30 hour Beacon Santa Telethon, hosted by Tricia McDonough and Chris Johnson and aided by the entire staff and parents ' club. reached a record amount in donations as they raised over $15,000 dollars for needy families in the community. Other popular events included amateur student broadcasts, live basketball games, weekly church services, ice cream socials and a spaghetti supper. Much of the success of W A VM over the past year is due to the hard work of seniors Tim Lawton, Heather Roche, Eric Anderson and Steve Carey, The future of WAVM looks bright as the reins of leadership will be passed down from the class of ' 89 to the hardworking classes of ' 90, 91 and 92. 59 Political viewpoints . . . election ’88 1988 was a presidential election year and to prepare the students for partici- pation in the electoral process, the so- cial studies department organized two all school assemblies. The first featured two local candidates for state represen- tative, Cile Hicks and Mark Collins. Each candidate stated his political views and then fielded questions from the student body and the faculty. The second assembly was an all-student heated debate on the national issues. The debates were followed by an elec- tion eve mock election run by the students. The results of the Maynard High election foreshadowed the na- tional election; George Bush was the winner. Senior Viewpoints . . . looking back . . . Tiger Aisles Sung to: Gilligan s Island Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, A tale of a spirited class. That started out with lots of hopes; Let’s look into our past. The Pres, was a tall and cheerful girl. The V.P. brave and sure. Ninety classmates set sail one day For a four year tour, a four year tour. The courses started getting tough. The class became so lost. If not for the courage of the fearless group. We all would’ve been tossed, we all would’ve been tossed. We’re leaving soon for our journey through uncharted distant skies. With memories, and knowledge too. The good times, and the bad. The friends we’ve made. The laughter and the joy we knew. Here at Maynard High! Now this is a tale of our last school days. We cannot tell a lie. We’ve tried to make the best of things Here at Maynard High. We Seniors and the teachers too. Have done our very best To learn from each experience And help us reach our quest. No heat! No roof? No carpeting! Not a single luxury. Like Robinson Crusoe It’s primitive as can be. You’ve joined us here each year my friends We’ll hate to say goodbye. From the ninety ecstatic graduates Here at Maynard High!
