Besides cheering at football and basketball games, the girls compete in tournaments throughout the state. They prac- tice many hours for the David Prouty tourna- ment in Spencer and for the Frontier Regional tournament in South Deerfield. Our cheerlead- ers certainly have spirit and we hear it! 81 French Club With the help of Miss Hovsepian and Mr. Chi- baro, the French Club has become one of the most active organizations at Maynard High. The enthu- siastic members have conducted many fund-raising campaigns: a slave drive, a bake sale at Victory Market, a presentation of a movie, and several French “cafes” at school. After doing all this work the girl’s rewarded themselves with a fondue party at a French restaurant. A few very ambitious members ventured into Quebec and really put their French to a test! Ooh la la! Miss Hovsepian 82 Junior Women’s Club The Junior Women’s Club, under the direction of Miss Hovsepian, is an organization that gives the girls in our school an opportunity to help their community and a chance to get together to sched- ule social events. Prior to Christmas the JWC di- rects a “Toys for Tots’’ campaign in which they collect toys for needy children. In the spring the club sponsors a semi-formal dance, and later, a fund-raising drive for cancer. The last event of the year is the club’s annual trip to the Old Mill res- taurant in Westminster. All- State Band Member — Glynis Aromaa. Majorettes Girls’ Glee Club The MHS Band was busy again, participating in rallies, football games, parades, and concerts. Havertown, Penn- sylvania, was the site of tthe Band Exchange which took place in March and April. The annual Spring and Christmas Concerts were again resounding successes, due to the dedication of Mr. G. and his aspiring young musicians. A Cappella Choir Boys’ Glee Club National Honor Society The Members When the picture was taken. Barry and Ted were out to lunch! V The members of the National Honor Society are cho- sen on the basis of achievement in the areas of Service, Leadership, Scholarship, and Character. Active mem- bers are chosen in their junior and senior years. Eligible sophomores are elected as provisional members. This year, under the guidance of a new advisor, Mr. Lent, the society has become a more active organization. The members have participated in projects ranging from tutoring younger children to competing on a television quiz show. At our publication date, plans were underway for the annual induction of new members. The Officers It’s Academic In November, Maynard High School competed on Channel 5 ' s fast-paced question-and-answer show “It ' s Academic. Team members were Barry Bachrach, Ted Donnelly, and Glynis Aromaa. With the support of “Doc- tor Lent the team won their first match with an over- whelming victory. And although they met up with “techni- cal difnculties” in their next game, the .M HS team members came through to finish an admirable second-place. 89 Program Sellers Program Printing Committee 90 Student Council The Student Council is an organization through which students may express their opinions, assist in the administration of the school, and participate in the manage- ment of school enterprises. The Council, under the direction of Miss (ielberg, con- sists of five representatives and the presi- dent of each class. This year the Council initiated the idea of having bi-weekly ac- tivity periods, a plan which has worked out very well. They have also been busy work- ing on such projects as expanding the mini- course curriculum, obtaining a smoking area, and setting up charity drives, dances, and school elections. With the combined efforts of President Chris Quinn and School Representative Kathy (leisenhai- ner, the Student Council has brough itself into closer association with the School Committee. Needless to say, the Council has had a productive year.
