“A little one-eyed, blinking sort of place” is what Mark Twain would have called it in 1871. That was when a few houses, some shops and a hand- ful of resourceful New Englanders became a town — Maynard. Since then, we have grown quite a bit and this year we are celebrating our Cen- tennial. We have captured scenes of our town in the hope that we will never forget “old homes, old friends and old splendors.” 5
