DEDICATION The Class of 1966 has chosen to dedicate this Screech Owl to Mr. Frediano D. Mattioli, our principal. Mr. Mattioli majored in mathematics at Boston College, from which he graduated in 1942, and received his Masters Degree in Education Administration from Boston University in 1951. He has also taken courses at Harvard College and M.l.T. Mr. Mattioli came to Maynard High School as a teacher of mathematics in 1946. During his nine years on the faculty, Mr. Mattioli was advisor to the Dramatics Club, coach of the golf team, and faculty manager of athletics. In 1955 Mr. Mattioli assumed his present position as Principal of Maynard High School. Mr. Mattioli believes that today’s teenagers are as good as they ever were, and sees each graduating class a better prepared group of young adults. He has confidence in their capability to meet the challenges and pressures of the modern world. Our principal’s philosophy on life is one which reflects his un- selfish dedication to his profession. Mr. Mattioli believes that one should strive to leave the world in a better situation than which he found it, and that man’s success in life is determined by what he has given of himself. The Class of 1966 wishes to express its appreciation for the encouragement, trust, and inspiration which Mr. Mattioli has given it. A perceptive and kind, respected and devoted principal; to such a man we dedicate our yearbook.

IN APPRECIATION After twenty-three years of loyal and diligent service, Mrs. Margaret Ayotte has retired as office secretary. During her years as secretary at Maynard High School, Mrs. Ayotte worked for four principals: Leo F. Mullin, Bernard T. White, Albert Lerer, and Frediano Mattioli. She has seen the position of Superintendent of Schools held by three people: Donald Lent, Mary Doyle, and Albert Lerer. Mrs. Ayotte’s duties as secre- tary have been many and varied. She has kept the registers and class accounts, handled transcripts, and taken telephone calls. Because of her extensive responsibilities in the principal’s office, Mrs. Ayotte calls herself jack of all trades and master of none. Mrs. Ayotte especially likes the students of Maynard High School, and in her many years with the school system, she has always won the respect and friend- ship of all who have come into contact with her. It will be quite a while before the students and fac- ulty alike get out of the habit of looking for the smile and cheery “hello of Mrs. Ayotte as they pass the office door. To show our appreciation for the years of work and friendship of Mrs. Ayotte, The Class of 1966 sets aside this page in our yearbook to honor the wonderful woman we will never forget.
