VOLUME III . j The underclassmen this year began the termwith an air of excitement and antici- pation. They had much for which to look forward. As well as the routine of requir- ed subjects they had the added privilege of choosing extracurricular activities which appealed to their interests. There were a number of clubs from which to choose membership, and those interested in sports, music, or service to the school were given many fields to enter. The juniors came back to school this year with a large part of their high school behind them. Besides their determination to produce good marks, they anticipated a WED or f51byrap61es good junior-senior prom. They also want- ed to do their best this year because next year they will be the .leading class. The sophomores were proud to be en- tering senior high and were anxious to make ,4 a good impression. They soon settled down to the daily routine and readily joined in the new activities. 4 . The junior high has its own organiza- tions, student government, and assembly programs. They are not connected with the senior high students, but carry on their own responsibilities. School is an even bigger challenge to them because they have more years and work ahead of them.

Physical Education The Outstanding Senior High School Athletic Award in Girls Physical Education was received by Diane Mc- Fadden. Diane is adependable member of the Physical Education Department. She is respected by her fellow students and is a good student. She possesses many friends and is interested in many fields of work. She is a leader in her extra-curricular activities. She has been a great help in organizing the Girls Athletics Association, which is still in its infant stages. Diane works well with groups of all ages and has a habit of success. Carl Herrmann The Trojan citizens who have r e c eive d the afore- mentioned awards represent another first in the history of Maynard Evans High School. It is the hope of the present Chariot Yearbook Staff that this tradition be continued in the yearbooks yet to be published. This living tribute has been established to honor those who give generously and unselfishly of their time and effort in the interests of a better student body and a better school. 53 Diane McFadden The Boys Physical Education Department is proud of its outstanding senior high sc ho ol member for the year 1961-1962--Carl Herrmami. This gentleman is an en- thusiastic member of the physical education classes. He takes an active part in all the intra- mural activities presented by the department. Carl sets an excellent example to be followed by other students in physical education. His sense of fair play and good sportsman- ship and cooperative spirit make him a good citizen of the department as well as of Maynard Evans. flat' Qi
