Outstanding Evans The faculty this year made recommendations about recognizing outstand- ing Evans Students in the Senior High School. Shown at the left is Senior Sandy Elkin, voted the outstanding girl citizen. She has maintained a fine academic record and has contributed much in extra-curricular activities. Sandy has, 'RWM SANDY ELKIN through her example, exemplified a high degree of service and citizenship to- ward her school and fellow students. The male student in the high school awarded the title of best citizen is Bruce Dudley. His outstand- ing contributions to his school service are many. Bruce has given immeasureable service in the area of journalism, serving on the yearbook and newspaper staffs. His unselfish devotion to many school projects in which he actively solicited student and faculty sup- port is recognized by this award. 3 1 BRUCE DUDLEY In recognition of outstanding co-operation and under- standing of our students and people in all walks of life we wish to reserve this space for Mr. Samuel J. Armeni. Mr. Armeni, better known to ,his students as Smiley , is very active in dealing with people. He began his teaching career in Burton High School, Burton, Ohio, from 1950 to 1952. He took one year off from teaching and went to New York City where he concurrently taught at the Pratt School of Business and worked on his Masters Degree at Columbia University. In 1953 he returned to Ohio and taught one year at Middlefield, Ohio before coming to Florida. He was hired by Mr.Wiedenbeck to teach at Lakeview High School. After six years of teaching business subjects and teaching jour- nalism to the yearbook staff he moved to Maynard Evans. Mr. Armeni has worked on school publications since the beginning of his teaching career. He is at present the year- book sponsor and one of the Senior Class advisors. He is well known to give up his free and most valuable time to help students with the yearbook and personal problems. Mr. Armeni is a member of the national, state, and local associations of business education teachers. He has achiev- ed his B. S. degree in Education from Ohio University and his M.A. degree from Columbia University. H In conclusion, we hope that Mr. Armeni knows how much we appreciate him. 48

Citizens Earn David Radford was cho s en to receive the 1962 Out- standing Senior High English Student Award. David has performed well, both within the English Department and on nationwide tests, in the field of English. He has evidenced a keen insight in the field of literature, has indicated a mastery of grammar and usage in his oral expression and in written compositions. David Rad- ford richly deserved this English award. S czence Brent Blumenstein The Outstanding Senior High Student Science award goes to Brent Blumenstein. A conscientious and devoted science student--attributes that Brent lends to other scholastic endeavors of his at Maynard Evans--sums up the feeling that prompted the decision of this science award. 49 Recognition English David Radford Mathematics The Mathematics Department selected Brent Blumen- stein and Stephen Forsythe as recipients of the Out- standing Math Student award. Both of these gentlemen excelled in grasping new concepts in mathematics and applied same in concrete examples. They have worked diligently and vigorously on difficult materials. Both students participated actively in class discussions which enhanced the learning situations O1 their groups.
