Tight defense enables Ed Siemer to pick off waywardlpass. The Trojans successful season was highlighted by copping the Tangerine Bowl Basketball Tourney champ- ionship. In the opening game the small Evans squad faced Daytona Mainland, a team of undefeated giants. For the Evans team, whose tallest man was 6'2 , the game looked over even before it began. But the faster Tro- jans completely controlled the game, picking off re- bounds from the taller Bucs, and slowing the game to a deliberate pace. In the tourney's biggest upset, Evans downed Mainland 41-29. The next night the fired-up Trojans met Colonial and soundly threshed the Grenadiers, 63-48. In the thrilling finale, Winter Park met the Tro- jans on even terms and going into the final minute of play the Trojans held a slim one point lead. With 1:09 left to play, the Parkers got the ball and tried frantically to get off a winning shot but the tough Tro- jan defense stopped the Parkers cold, and left them holding the ball. As the final buzzer went off the fight- ing Trojans Walked away with a 43-42 victory and the frist trophy in Evans basketball history.
