FROM A SPARK .IMY BURST A EIGHT FLAE In the year 1943, sixty str wide eyed, eager faced little sparks, who eventually became mighty flames, filled the halls of llayfield High School We were to be, in X six years, the graduating class of 1949 -,,.f- From our first step on the threshold of this g-,gp different world, the predomznating character istic of the '49ers was our interest zn social activities For the 1944 Yule tide season Rich LaConte showed his cooking skill by baking a cake for the BB homeroom s Christmas party 511 terest turning to sports an interest which later crystalized znto the winning of a football championship over Bay Village in the last year at our Alma Hater In the sophomore year we gave serious thought to our future and decided more definztely on the course we would follow In 1948 the junior class sponsored the play, 'A Date With Judy The commercial classes reorganized the Commercial Club and earned money to buy posture chairs and other offxce equzpment Hal Doster added quzte a punch to the magazine drive by selling the most subscriptions for the school In his senior year Hal shared these honors by tying for first place In the junior year all the 49ers' thoughts turned to the Junior Senior prom held May 8, 1948 The theme for a most memorable evening was 'You and the Night and the Music Soon after the prom came Recognition Day which honored outstanding athletes and students in the class of 1949 In our senzor year, as one homeroom, we became more united than ever Bob Summers led the class In perfect attendance, being present every day for nine years With szxty members zn our class, we donned our caps and gowns on May 24 for 'our' day SENIOR DAY On Wednesday, llay 25, we found ourselves the grad uating class of 1949 So we have closed another chapter of Mayfield 's everliving annual and have said good bye to those little sparks who have grown into mighty flames 13 I I I .
