With a smile and much enthusiasm she instantly became someone we could all respect. From there on, she has taught us with a style all her own. This has built knowledge beyond our text books. She expresses her opinion and encourages us to form our own. She has made us realize that everything in life isn't always black or white. Ms. Ameer continually goes out of her way to help others, no matter what the problem. 'uk She takes an interest in and volunteers for such responsibilities as being faculty advisor for SA D D in 1987 This enthusiasm encourages us all to partrcr ate in school activities Her ability to relate and understand has always made her someone each student can come to lhr advice. And so many of us do. Ms. Ameer, the Mayfield family hos greatly benefited from your knowledge, understanding ways, and concern. And for this, we thank you. . L. ....,..,.--- .MM--.-,.....w Sn It is sometimes said that we return to the trenches in September. This year we really did! The trenches, the mounds of dirt, the tractors, the pipes, the struggles for de- cent arking spots, getting mud and dirt all over our shoes, and fblling into numerous pits made life a bit difficult but the sacrifices would be worth the new library and science building. Not only was there construction going on outside, with new buildings, parkin lots, and other improvements being added on to our schools foundation, but inside are students building upon themselves. When we entered, as freshmen, we were scared of making friends, afraid of not being able to get along with teachers, and afraid that we would not be able to handle the work load. But through each year, we have built strong relationships that will last forever. We've built up our knowledge of the world around us b a plying what we have learned in class to the real worldl Tfle con- struction around us this year served to accent iust how Mayfield has helped to build up our stren th and self con- fidence. More than ever, this was a year tofauild on. ,c i li .,I'1.x - ...V ,. Theme 9 XR cuNs'rnuc'rlnN TIME nunm lk X, XV NWA uw ' xx 'w l- xv l lo '- IO Theme YQ M fxfjvg Y M H . A-My .L . N . fl 5. K . Thanks to Katie Colborn's coordination of details, the activity was a great success. Sponsored by the student council, the barbecue gave Mayfield students the opportunity to reunite with friends they had not seen all summer. At the same time, the freshmen were able to build better acquain- tances with one another, and were able to get to know their iunior big sisters. 'ti 9 'QQ ' 0 8 cr 122 BBQ Attack!! BIG FIND LI L SIS Oh, the 'oys of sisterly love. On the first day of school, the Freshmen and new students were ushered by the friendly faces of their big sisters through the hallowed halls of Mayfield on a tour of the campus. As lunch rolled around, the Freshmen were greeted by the Juniors and the So homores bythe Seniors with delicious lunches, balloons, and decorated cups. Although we had no lawn to sit on, everyone found a place to talk, share their scrumptious lunches and their per- sonalities. Big and Little Sisters has always been an important opportunity for people to get to know each other and those who do, to grow even closer. Thank God lor Big and Little Sisters!! rw. if O f' - 9 . 0 Xvvs . Bigllittle Sisters l23 This year, the Seniors spent their retreat at Sacred Heart Retreat Camp in the beautiful, outdoor surroundings of Bi Bear. This was truly the most successhi retreat the ever had in their four years at Mayfieldl The class discussed problems that the all shared, ap lying and being accepted' into or reiectedl out of colleges, leaving home and growing independent. The class became more united during the retreat and carried on this unity through the rest of the year after retreat. They worked hard together having gotten a lot accom lished. And they showed this unity through supporting each other in what they did in school and outside ol school. They created a strong bond that made them a special class. FIETREFITS Retreats AX M, -5 s - ,J ,U HE y y The Sophomores this year went to T ff, j I by Divine Word Semina Retreat Center in Riverside that hard not previously been attended by any other Mayfield class. They were able to go there F without knowing what to expect, therefore having a more positive at- titude towards the retreat. Through many activities including creative skits, they made the retreat a suc- cess, brin ing the class closer, preparing them to work together on class responsibilities to come. The Junior class spent their retreat at The Passionist Fathers Retreat Center in Sierra Madre this year. In the peaceful, tranquil surroundings, they were able to reflect on themselves and their growing in- dependence and responsibilities that went along with that . Through group activities, prayer, and meditation, they were able to grow closer together to prepare themselves to lead the school the following year and to grow closer to God. This year's Freshmen were able to ex- perience a retreat that only the previous class had. The entire freshmen class slept in the auditorium. This enabled them to get a real chance to know each other bet- ter after only having been together for less than two months. During the, day, they reflected on how it was being at a new school by preparing and putting on skits, discussions, and a mass. They saw each other as they had never seen before. The cast dressed in present-day ieans and colorful shirts. Because of the high energy of the cast, Godspell couldn't turn out an other way but perfect.
