Every Friday students sit distracted in classes, eagerly anticipating the last block of the day, 'cause then they're free to party all week- end long. Dragging through tests, homework and everyday schedules can make an over-worked student long for all the breaks she can get, and when she's not partying on the week-ends she's celebrating at Mayfield. Every celebration at Mayfield is the highlight of a tedious school year that can break the monotony - and does Mayfield know how to celebrate! Christmas Dance . . . barbecues . . . Father-Daughter night Big Sister-Little Sister lunches Carol Night . . . Prom . . . retreats . . . term plays. The list goes on forever. Through these events Mayfield maintains a spirit of celebrationg a celebration of the spirit and the ideals of the Mayfield students. The school is beautifully decorated by the Sophomores with winter pine trees, hol- ly, and mistletoe, while December music rings through the halls, bringing a warm feeling to all students and faculty. This team of determined and bright women accomplished their goals for the school year '86-'87. Student Body President, Gigi Bannan, suc- cessfully headed the Student Council, with great help from lst Vice President, Bolade Olambiwonnu and 2nd Vice President, Audrey Williams. The Treasurer and Secretary, Michele Scalzo, counted and scribbled away, while Betsy Knox, CAM President, reminded us of the homeless and needy people present in our world. Roksana Badkoubei, Activities Coordinator, made every day at Mayfield a celebration with her new and exciting ideas and Diana Vasily, GAA President, kept us in the sporting spirit. Snsitetfly Love The Mayfield tradition of Big and Little Sisters has, over the years, tied the Mayfield family in a close bond. On the first day of the school year, hesitant freshmen were greeted with warm smiles and delicious lunches by their older sisters. They were shown around Mayfield and became familiar with the campus and where their various classes were located. lf it wasn't for the assistance of their Big Sisters, lost Freshmen would have been wandering the halls of Mayfield aimlessly. The Freshmen also celebrated a surprise breakfast together with their Big Sisters early one school morning. Through the guidance of their steadfast friends, the Juniors, Freshmen slowly became accustomed to the hustle and bustle of Mayfield. Big Sisters also appreciated the warmth of companionship with their little sisters as they celebrated life at Mayfield together and will continue to celebrate in the future. :J i , z:'.. .:X W ' BigfLittle Sister 145 o B A This year the Seniors enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the Big Bear Sacred Heart Retreat Camp and experienc- ed the closest, most fulfilling retreat the class has ever had in their four years at Mayfield. The retreat focused on the pressures, concerns, and worries of the class, and bound the Seniors together in a way none had expected. The warmth and friendship the Senior class discovered upon their retreat continued with them throughout the year, and made this final year their most memorable one. Do The Juniors spent their spiritual retreat in the beautiful mountains of Sierra Madre. The calm and tranquil surroundings enabl- ed them to reflect on themselves, their goals, and upcoming years. These two memorable days of group activities, prayer, and meditation helped the class become more united and closer to God. fl? WWW 'L' Retreats The Sophomore retreat this year was a great success both for the students and their advisors. The Sophomores presented some truly creative skits according to Sophomore advisor, Ms. Ameer. They had a positive attitude which allowed them to grow closer as a class. 4 X.-T + .5 - s J V K A, .T . This year Mayfield's class of 1990 ex- perienced a retreat unlike any other previous Freshmen class. For the first time ever the Freshmen slept overnight in the auditorium. ln the words of Freshmen ad- visor, Ms. Van Blair, lt was the best Freshmen retreat ever. Zi Advertisements 183 This is . . . our time to celebrate, our time to reflect, our time to appreciate - thank you Ms. Johnson for all of your skillful guidance. Thank you Shannon, for putting so much extra time to produce some of the greatest pictures ever, Maureen, for making it through some frustrating times, Desma, for being so inventive, Chiga, for all of those tiny masterpieces. Carrie, for pulling in all of the money, and to all your staff members, you did a fabulous job. How do you say thank you, to a school, that so greatly influenced your academic growth? Each year blossoms into a rich and rewarding memory - the friendships that were strong and always there. How do you capsulize that period of time - when every day was a new experience? How do you crystalize its meaning into a few short comments? You cannot! Mayfield has been the guiding force behind us - completely and unselfishly our second fami- ly. Each friend, each a sculptor . . . shaping us with skills and knowledge - to guide us towards the rewards of setting and accomplishing goals. We have learned there are no limits for learning. Our time at Mayfield was the best! Our faculty at Mayfield was the best! We have learned what our possibilities can be . . . now it is time for each of us, with dedication and purpose, to put our best foot forward on the path to the future. This is just a pause in our friendship, not farewell, as you will hear from each of us AGAIN! l thank you all for a wonderful four years at Mayfield. Our theme for this year's yearbook to i'CELEBRATE, certainly brings it altogether, the celebration of family, good friends, great memories, happiness, love and health. May each of you be blessed with life's best 'celebrations' Remember - live with zest, love, and style -- and always wear a happy smile! love always, llzajfgr-N 184 Editor's Page Im lm 4' YXQ QW Q E M m px 2 xx
