V, .MQ l r QVf r dedicate Crossroads 86 to a ter- ANGELA- lt's been a long four years, but we have finally made it, thanks to you. All throughout our days of roaming the halls and courts you cheered us on to victory and pepped up our spirits when we were low . . . that meant so much to us! How could we have survived our sophomore dances and especially our unforgettable prom without you to hold us to ether? Angela, ou've given a great deal to us andgnow we would like to present you with something in return. The beach is sunny, warm, fun, and wonderful, just like you! In short, the Class of 1986 is honored to rific teacher, coach, counselor, and most importantly, friend. We love you and we will miss you. ANGELA THIS ONE IS FOR YOU. 4 Dedication AN 1 ze, Qu -uf A, ' Dedication 5 Tell the teacher we're sur- fin' ... so the Beach Boys croori. Who honestly wants to lounge around in a stuffy classroom when beyond the skyscrapers sleeps a wild tur- quoise ocean just waiting to be wakened by the laughter of Eoung beachbums? With a lazing sun grinning over Southern California, rows of various shades of white, scarlet, and brown bodies bask over inviting golden sands along the coast. Air- conditioners blast, as do a myriad host of portable stereos. A rainbow of surf- boards skim the whitecaps un- til thesun goes down, then the beachbums race for the bon- fires and clambakes. There is no time like summer! There is no place in the world like the beach. . . 6 Theme -,gd yep. 511' We can't wait for lune! No! Cupcakes, a fried burrito, and a diet soft drink! And still, they will have several more years to wonder why the gain- ed ten pounds when they always had diet colla with lunch and nothing fattenin . Ah, the highs and lows of freshman life! As the old song goes, Make new friends but keep the old . . . one is silver and the other gold. In these next three years, one surely can expect Mayfield to be strewn with little sparkles of silver and gold all engraved with Class 0 '89. The warm sunshine on the East Lawn made this time, for the Big-Little Sister Luncheon, a special one. The incoming freshmen met their big sisters, the juniors, and the sophomores gathered together with their senior sisters. They munched delectable lunches varying from double-decker submarine sandwiches to apple cider si ped in champagne glasses not to mention all the sinfully sweet treats. It was easier to ad'ust to the first few days of school because of this fabulous luncheon. Not only did freshmen become better acquainted with their new classmates and big sisters, but retur- ning students got reac uainted with their old bud- dies and chatted endlessly about their summer vacations. Among the many activities during this warm, fun-filled day were the three-le ged race, and the student-faculty beach volleygball game on the grass. While all of us were working up our usual ravenous appetites, our five-star Mayfield cooks were barbequeing up their scrumptuous beach burgers. All this excitement was the perfect ending to the Indian Summer and a fan- tastic start forthe new school year ahead. .. .Sounds Like - u-T , Barbecue 127 RETREATS Every year, Mayfield students take time for reflection in our traditional retreats. After hearing man screams and witnessing strange disappearances, all evidence showed that they put much time into their class play. With a plot not unlike the A atha Christie novel upon which the play was baseci the juniors thrilled the audience with the heart- stopping music from Psycho and their cleverly pro- duced judges' Program for which they won an award. To top it all off, Carrie Krinock won the Best Class Actress Award for her role as Mrs. Fred Rogers and Lisa Pawlek won Best Class Supporting Actress as the hip announcer. . . i rl is s .R s t ' ' 5, , as QS N 1 V X get f f f W M ,... One of the elite few classes to win Best Play as other than a senior class, the Seniors of '86 danced awa with yet another Best Play. Their comic musical! revolved around the three retired Mr. McManus, Ms. Bologna, and Ms. Gillick reminiscing about the wonderful class of 1986. Strangely enough, some of those very same girls turned out quite different than the Mayfield crew expected! Especially memorable were the polyester-Elaid disco costumes, stunning choreograp y and award-winning sets as well as the Seniors' own Class Best Actress Ana Sufuentes portraying an absent-minded Mr. McManus, and Mollie Murphy as the blond-bombshell who deser- vingly toted home the Class Best Supporting Ac- tress Award. : gygi K . ig, V Q, ev NPS X S00 tif.
