A Iithe tree at our crossroads stands with green and gracious leaves In which the wind with gentle hands her soft direction weaves. And here we meet-and here we part, for each must go her way, And disregard the mourning heart, the heart thot begs to stay. -Patricia Duff, '45 Page Five 4'Ede, rx ffTYz c1'g3Xd , fgcie, firm' fgnfinm 1934 .C'1c31'x-psngna, resuennwlbfffs 5-dvgfi fDcii5cSde,nf3 f955 5'4'1 J fide N. 4. 3Q:bAuTy 1.z,4 cms: PRESMDENT' 1. yomuey BALL 1,9-,,4. Miss Swear- ingen is noted as being one of Southern California's leading horsewomen and the author of the popular book, How to Grow Tall or Be Short and Like lt. Joan Regan, whose golden suntan often provoked sighs of envy from her classmates, last week announced the gala opening of her swank Palm Springs Resort, The Lone Cactus. Mayfield conveys best wishes to Joan, and promises loyal patronage! . Circulation' of the New York Times has been doubled, it is reported, with the ap- pearance of a sensational, new daily column whose editor is one of long experience in the field of journalism. ln her widely read column entitled Clean lt Nowl , Jackie Jelley offers helpful and timely advice to bewildered souls on the art of systematiz- ing anything from untidy cupboards to dis- ordered lives. ' Abandoning her reform to abolish movies in America, Jacqueline Stetler has recently organized a glee club exclusively for altos. This is a unique group and it may be safely said that the results are astounding. Mary Jane Hughes, winner of the i957 Pulitzer Prize, today boarded a plane for Italy. Attractively attired in a brown checked skirt with matching blazer and short cropped hair, Miss Hughes told re- porters she would gather material for her newest book, An Anthology of Latin Poetry. Sports fans who eagerly awaited results of the Women's National Open golf tourna- ment last week, learned that the winner of the coveted award was none other than Maryanne Frauenheim, Topping a ten- year record, Maryanne attributes her skill to constant practice with her equally famous husband, a noted criminal lawyer. Mother Mary Jacquelyn Brown, foun- dress of the Sisters of Good Council, spoke to us Wednesday concerning the work of her newly established order-that of pre- paring young girls for the business world. A colorful figure, Ann Fi, has risen rapidly to artistic fame as Ballerina in the Ballet Russe. Resuming its extensive tours for the first time since the war, the Com- pany will leave for a month's engagement in England sometime next week. Returning to Pasadena after a two-year absence, Barbara lckes, star of the musical hit, Summertime, will visit classmates and friends during her brief stay. Conclud- ing a forty-week run on Broadway, Barbara will attend the Alumnae Tea to be held in Mayfield's Patio next week, and as ex- President, will sing on the CAPA Club pro- gram as guest-artist. Completing a series of lectures entitled Avoiding Traffic Accidents, Joan Her- bold recently arrived in New York to attend the showing of her Spring Fashion Designs. Joan's interests and accomplishments are varied.
