Page 2 'rms CARDINAL May 17 1949 Flrst we would that you th1nk of thls the Grumbler of the class of 49 as not hav1ng a s1ngle author but rather as belng an accumulat1ve report of the grlpes and grumbl1ngs of each and every member collected complled and put 1nto words by a few so called wr1ters of th1s the graduatmg class of 1949 Among the many th1ngs MHS needs 1S an enlarged Flrst A1d room to take care of the mgured teachers and the not so QUICK on the feet students casualtles of the 11 40 rush The flfty m1nute lunch per1od IS respons1ble for 1nd1gest1on attacks of appendlcltls fractured bones ulcerated stomachs and numerous other a1lments You have all heard of Coxeys Army and the Battle of the Bulge Just xmagme the two together and you get a general ldea of vshat happens 1n the halls at lunch t1me Its terrlfymg' You get caught 1n one crowd and follow lt down several fhghts of sta1rs only to dlscover yourself out on the campus when you had planned to eat 1n the cafeter1a Someone should tell Mr Ross that 1f a person has h1s foot 1n the door when the tardy bell r1ngs he 1snt really tardy be cause although the common rule IS that you have to be 1n the room at the t1me the bell rmgs our feet are usually the largest th1ng about us One purpose of our h1gh school IS to prepare us for college but dont the teachers know that 1f they keep g1v1ng those long ass gnments and dally QUIZZQS most of us w1ll never leave h1gh school Dont the teachers have anyth1ng to talk over so that they can have more teachers meet1ngs For a whlle they met every other day and then came those blessed f1fteen m1nutes of free dom 1n the afternoon Even that short of vacat1on lS better than none If anyone 1S plann1ng to set f1re to the school he had better do It the f1rst per1od because thats the only t1me we have had f1re dr1l.ls Speakmg of f1re dr1lls rem1nds us of our sprlng vacatlon We are out of school about as long for one as for the other Are all sophomores s1lly and must they balrlcade the sta1rs and chase one another down the halls? It IS almost 1mposs1ble to get to the typ1ng room before the bell r1ngs The rfeshmen g1rls need the hall for d1scuss1ng thelr dates And what happened to the coke machme 1n the back hall or was that Just a m1rage'P Not1ce all the brlght sh1n1ng faces one sees wandermg about 1n the halls The thanks for the clean faces go to the few work 1ng dr1nk1ng fountams The person vxho IS lucky enough to f1nd a fountaln that w1ll g1Ve water 1nstead of teas1ng about lt w1ll l1kely f1nd hxmself drenched to the skln Speaklng of water weve been try1ng to dec1de what to do w1th our band room Someone suggested ra1s1ng tadpoles and m1nnows good 1dea' Why doesnt the band do an underwater symphonyv But then It would probably be all wet Couldnt we get a d1scount on a large sh1pment of gas masks? The fresh breat hof sprlng around here only brmgs odors of the concoct1ons from the hopeful chem1sts future cooks and the faxthful lunchroom Isn t that a f1ne mlxture of odors to en dure every day? No school tr1p 1S complete wlthout the famous school buses then anvth1ng can happen and usually does Any thmg from h1tch h1k1ng to you rdest1nat1on to Sllllply s1tt1ng there wa1t1ng for some dash1ng kn1ght n another broken dovxn bus to come to your rescue Whv cant we have better buses Csome thxng l1ke the Greyhoundb or take more tr1ps and maybe we Wlll get stranded far enough away from home to m1ss several days of school? What about all these g1rls that wear the1r scarfs all clay?
