The look of the frontier days was brought back in an updated form. Full denim skirts with petticoats were matched with big, ruffled prairie tops and boots to achieve the look of the Clld West. This femininely western way of dressing was extremely popular in 'BE When it came to sweats, bright, brilliant colors were the key. Sweats no longer come in only blue and grey. They could be found in any color of the rainbow. Sweats became more fashionable and could be worn almost anywhere. And when they were worn with leg warmers, the look seemed unbeatable. However, leg warmers weren't only being worn with sweats. They were being teamed with every- thing, including jeans, shorts, and even dresses. Leg warmers were definitely the biggest fad in fashion this season. Designer jeans have been considered in for many years, and this year was no exception, .Jeans have been so popular because of their versatility. They were paired with everything from sweaters and lace for a dressy look, to sweatshirts and tennis shoes for more casual times. No matter what time of year, the surfers on the lvlayfair campus were always dressed their way. Plain or shine, they wore shorts, T-shirts, and tennis shoes. And when the cold weather was gone, most of the T-shirts were too. lVlany famous designers, Calvin Klein, Yves Saint Laurent and Oscar de la Renta, to name a few, come along with new fashions every year. This year was no exception. These creations, many of which were ex- tremely outrageous, were the fashions everyone wanted, but ever-present inflation made them very expensive. So for now, we'Il just have to keep wearing our own styles, at least until next year. 1. lvlodeling the new sailor look, Uma Veerappa shows one of the new fashion trends. 2. The old days return. Flobin Davis shows off the traditional prairie tcp. 3. lvlega-Prep! Chris lvlarduez displays the necessities of the Preppy wardrobe. 4. Old and nevv shovv up in fashion On the lvlayfair campus, our flair for fashion never fades. l-lovvever, everyone dresses in his X her diffe- rent style. The change in fashions have included a little of both old and nevv. ln the 'EO's, miniskirts were the rage. Novv in '82, mlnis are pack and they're more popular than ever. lvlinis novv come in many styles, and the teaming of miniskirts and tights proved to oe a Winning combina- tion. The military had a big influence on the styles of clothes in '82, Sailor tops, when paired vvith vvhite pants, produced a nautical look that was extremely popular. Sailor hats, headldands, and other acces- sories completed the look. lvlilitary-influenced Camouflage and khaki coordinates were also very popular. The look of the '5CJ's included outton-dovvn shirts, straight-leg pants, pullover svveaters and oardigans. All of these vvere combined in 'E2 to form the Preppy look. Also included in the Preppy wardrobe were plaid pants, lzod shirts, and penny loafers. This comloinas tion of Eastern prep school and '5CJ's styles vvas vvorn by many people on the lvlayfair campus. lt gave these people a completely different look, vvithout going to the extremes of Punk or New VVave. C .J 'I Blasting ears out with small personal cassette and radio units seemed to be a favorite fad of the many musically-inclined co-eds at Mayfair. A book to live by? Some people thought there was nothing else to life besides the Preppy Handbook and lzod shirts. IFor more, see f shion.J The beginning of the baffling puzzles was the F'lubik's Cube, which spurred the same puzzles holding keys. Fleal or imitation, only dollars and a name made the difference with the in sunglasses. A classic example of a Flock 'n' F-loll tour.
